Just a day after teasing it, Tesla has now unveiled the new Tesla Model Y Performance. Priced from GBR61,990 (approx. RM305k) in the UK, the upgraded SUV is packed with upgrades enabling acceleration times worthy of supercar territory.
As the name suggests, the Tesla Model Y Performance is the most performance-focused variant in the lineup. Its dual motors deliver 460 hp, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h — accelerating as quickly as the BMW M4 Competition xDrive. Despite the added power, range remains strong at 579 km (WLTP).
In classic Tesla fashion, detailed information on the battery are not furnished – but according to Autocar, the car is fitted with a new “high-density” battery cell that doesn’t sacrifice much range from the Long Range AWD despite being up on power.
Aside from raw performance upgrades, the new Model Y Performance also adds the same adaptive suspension setup as the Tesla Model 3 Performance, but tuned differently. The car also features new suspension hardware and “optimised” wheels and tyres for better performance, the latter coming in the form of the 21-inch “Arachnid 2.0” alloy wheels.

On the outside, the front bumper gets additional aero elements, while the rear gains a diffuser-inspired design — though it’s unclear if it actually functions as an aerodynamic device, or merely for aesthetic purposes. Enhancing its sportiness further are the red brake callipers, paired with a carbon-fibre ducktail spoiler. A subtle plaid badge completes the look, signifying it as the performance model.
Moving inside, the Tesla Model Y Performance gains a slightly larger 16-inch centre touchscreen seen in the China-exclusive Model Y L — now the highest-resolution display ever fitted to a Tesla. The new front sports seats add heating, cooling, and larger side bolsters to keep passengers secure during spirited drives.

For now, the Tesla Model Y Performance is limited to certain markets, but it’s likely to reach our shores eventually. When it does, expect a price tag well above the Long Range AWD Model Y, which starts at RM242,450. For context, the new Tesla Model Y Performance is nearly GBP10,000 dearer than theLong Range AWD in the UK, which is priced at GBP51,999 (approx. RM297k).
