BMW Malaysia has just launched the all-new second-generation BMW 218 Gran Coupe with an estimated starting retail price of RM241,000 on-the-road and without insurance. Now sporting a refreshed design and BMW’s latest tech, can this sleek, locally assembled, compact four-door continue the success of its predecessor?
The second-generation 2 Series Gran Coupe made its debut alongside the all-new fourth-generation BMW X3 at MY BMW World 2025. Also making their first appearance in Malaysia were the updated 3 Series models and a host of M cars, including the new M5, updated M2, and the new M3 and M4 Competition xDrive.
On the outside, the overall proportions of the car remain largely the same, with most of its changes being cosmetic. These include new headlight and taillight designs, as well as a newly redesigned kidney grille with vertical and diagonal kidney bars.
Moving inside, the BMW Curved Display running on BMW Operating System 9 takes centre stage. This setup includes a larger 10.7-inch central touchscreen, paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Overall, the interior design has been streamlined that aligns more closely with BMW’s latest design language.

Powering the car is a familiar 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 156 hp and 230 Nm. Power is sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which propels the car from 0-100 km/h in 8.6 seconds with a top speed of 230 km/h.
BMW has also enhanced the car’s dynamics with upgraded suspension components, new anti-roll bars, and ARB (actuator-related wheel slip limitation)—all contributing to improved ride comfort and handling.

The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe has been fitted with many of BMW’s driver assistance systems as standard which include Lane Change Warning, parking assistant, and Rear Crossing Traffic Alert with brake intervention, just to name a few.
The new CKD BMW 218 Gran Coupe Sport starts at an estimated retail price of RM241,000, including the BMW service and repair inclusive package. This package includes a five-year unlimited mileage warranty, along with five-year or 100,000km of service coverage.
