iCaur V23 previewed at Malaysia Autoshow 2025 – Retro-futuristic EV SUV confirmed for launch

iCaur Malaysia has previewed the fully electric (EV) iCaur V23 at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 alongside the iCaur 03 and 03T. Notably, these are left-hand drive units bearing the iCar branding. For context, iCar is a sub-brand of Chery that has since been rebranded as iCaur for export markets – including here on our shores.

That said, the iCaur V23 is indeed confirmed for launch here in Malaysia, so the preview here at the show will give us Malaysians an idea of what to expect!

The iCar V23’s boxy exterior might remind you of some popular off-road SUVs from yesteryear, yet it sports its own unique, distinctive styling touches, such as the square spare tyre cover mounted at the rear.

Amongst the many other sub-brands of Chery, iCaur distinguishes itself by allowing customers to customise the wheels, front grilles, and opt for other accessories to suit their taste. And indeed, as seen with the many examples during the 2025 Shanghai motor show, the V23 is offered with a variety of accessories and parts for owners to customise their cars to their own personal taste.

It remains to be seen, though, if the brand will offer such a service when the iCaur V23 arrives in Malaysia.

The interior of the iCaur V23 echoes its retro-futuristic exterior, blending physical and digital controls. While iCaur hasn’t revealed detailed interior specifications, a large touchscreen infotainment system takes centre stage on the dashboard, complemented by a row of rotary controls beneath the air vents for climate and multimedia functions.

For the driver, they get a small circular display that is reminiscent of the ones used by old MINIs, displaying driving information.

iCaur did not disclose any powertrain specifications for the iCaur V23 previewed in Malaysia. In China, where the iCaur V23 made its debut last year, the SUV is available as either a fully electric (EV) or a range-extender electric vehicle (REEV).

On the EV side, the iCaur V23 in China offers a choice of rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). The RWD version is powered by an electric motor producing 136 hp (100 kW) and 180 Nm, drawing power from a 59.93 kWh lithium-ion phosphate (LFP) battery pack enabling a range of 401 km according to the (optimistic) CLTC cycle.

The RWD iCar V23 can also be equipped with a larger 81.76 kWh ternary lithium-ion battery (NMC) that increases the range to 550 km (CLTC).

Stepping up to the AWD variants adds a front-mounted electric motor delivering 75 hp (55kW), resulting in a combined output of 211 hp and 292 Nm, paired with an 81.76 kWh NMC battery pack that enables a range of 501 km (CLTC). Charging-wise, iCaur states all variants of the V23 can recharge from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes using DC fast charging.

While EV is the presumed candidate for the iCaur V23 here in Malaysia, we wonder if the range-extender EV will prove to be popular too, especially for those who truly intend to take the car (mildly) off-roads, provided that the price is right.

On that topic, the iCaur V23 is priced very similarly to the 03 SUV in their home country of China. The iCaur 03 has been given an estimated price range of between RM145,000 and RM155,000, so we could be seeing something very similar for the V23 too when it arrives here on our shores!
