Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV, iCaur V23 awarded 5-star ratings in ASEAN NCAP tests


The Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV and iCaur V23, two models from Chery group that recently made their debut in Malaysia, have both achieved a full five-star rating in the ASEAN NCAP safety tests. The two models were crash-tested last month at the China Automotive Engineering Research Institute (CAERI) in Chongqing, under the outgoing 2021-2025 test protocol.

In terms of scores breakdown, The Tiggo 7 PHEV achieved an impressive full 40 points for Adult Occupant Protection, 17.18 (out of a possible 20) for Children, another full 20 points in the Safety Assist category, and 17.5 (out of a possible 20) for Motorcyclist Safety, resulting in a total weighted score of 94.68, making it the highest-scoring vehicle to be tested on the protocol to date, surpassing the Proton eMAS 7.

The iCaur V23, meanwhile, scored 39.71 (out of 40) for Adult, 16,67 (out of 20) for Children, 17.14 (out of 20) for Safety Assist, and 17.5 (out of 20) for Motorcyclist Safety, for a total weighted score of 91.02.

According to their full test reports, both models were awarded two extra points (unweighted) in the Motorcyclist Safety category for “Advanced Motorcyclist Safety Technology”, as both models come as standard with motorcycle detection for their autonomous emergency braking systems.

The car-to-motorcycle autonomous emergency braking systems will become a standard test element on the upcoming 2026-2030 ASEAN NCAP protocol, in addition to a greater emphasis on other advanced driver assistance (ADAS) features.

Both variants are equipped with the full suite of ADAS features as standard, including autonomous emergency braking (with motorcyclist detection), rear collision warning, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitor, lane change warning and lane departure prevention, as wll as adaptive cruise control with traffic jam support.

The Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV further differentiates itself with the addition of rear seatbelt reminders and rear seat child presence detection, as well as eight airbags including knee and centre airbag, compared to the iCaur V23’s six.
