iCAUR made a big splash in Malaysia when it entered the market with the iCAUR 03 back in September 2025, thanks to the unique ‘Boxy Retro’ aesthetic that challenges all conventional SUV design norms.
With 547 units registered in April 2026 alone, it’s clear that Malaysians have welcomed the brand with open arms. But iCAUR Malaysia wants to do more than just selling cars – because from May 2026 onwards, the company will also be building their cars right here in Malaysia, at the Chery Corporate assembly plant in Shah Alam.
iCAUR 03: Now made in Malaysia, for Malaysians
The pivot to local assembly comes at a crucial moment in Malaysia’s EV adoption push, as tax incentives for fully imported (CBU) electric vehicles have now expired at the end of 2025. Local assembly works not only help keep their cars affordable for Malaysian consumers, but also signals iCAUR Malaysia’s long-term commitment to the Malaysian market by investing into the local automotive supply chain and workforce.
With a production hub right at the heart of Klang Valley, the company can also ensure speedier deliveries to customers – CKD operations have commenced in Q2 2026, and the first batch of locally assembled iCAUR 03s are already on track to reach showrooms this month.
Locally built, to global standards
Due to the intricacies of localising a production line, it’s common to see CKD models being cut-down on specifications, with the more ‘premium’ equipment such as seat ventilation and bigger wheels the first to go in these instances. That’s not the case for the iCAUR 03, however, because every unit built here in Malaysia will still be identical in equipment to their prior CBU counterparts.
It’ll even be offered in the range-topping Intelligent-Wheel Drive (iWD) variant to boot, capable of delivering 279 hp (205 kW) and 385 Nm to all four wheels for a century sprint in 6.5 seconds. A 69.8 kWh battery, same as the CBU units, translate to 418 km (NEDC) of driving range in a single charge.
Thanks to the close collaboration between iCAUR Malaysia and Chery Corporate, the assembly line in Shah Alam is also designed to meet the rigorous global standards, thus ensuring that every car built in Malaysia is also of the same quality as those delivered from China.

Driving Malaysia forward with style
As the country accelerates towards its new energy goals as laid out in the National Automotive Policy 2020 (NAP 2020) plan, iCAUR Malaysia – now with its CKD works in motion – will be playing a major role in the nation’s transition to greener mobility.
And with their unique retro-classic looks, the iCAUR 03 also proves that going green doesn’t have to look boring. If you’re planning to go electric with style, there’s no better time to do so with the locally assembled iCAUR 03 iWD, competitively priced from RM129,880 on-the-road and without insurance.
To sweeten the deal even further, iCAUR Malaysia is also offering a special ownership package comprising a 7 kW AC home charger, alongside complimentary scheduled service for two years or 45,000 km, whichever comes first.
