Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia has announced that the Jaecoo J5 electric vehicle (EV) is now officially open for booking from an estimated starting price of RM125,000. Recently previewed at the Oh My Meow! Expo 2026 a couple of weeks ago, it will stand as the brand’s first fully electric model in Malaysia.
The upcoming Jaecoo J5 EV variant ditches the 1.5-litre petrol engine of the internal combustion engine (ICE) J5 model for an electric motor producing 211 hp (155 kW) and 288 Nm of torque. Power is sourced from a 58.9 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery sourced from CATL, allowing for a claimed range of 402 km (WLTP).
Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia has yet to fully disclose charging details for the local charging specifications. However, the company mentioned that the car can recharge from 30-80% in 28 minutes with DC charging, with support for vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality.
To distinguish the EV from its ICE counterpart, the Jaecoo J5 EV features a closed-off front fascia and rides on new 18-inch alloy wheels. Naturally, the petrol filler cap has been replaced by a charging port, now located on the front right fender.
The J5 EV is also available in exclusive exterior colours, namely Alpine Green, Fjord Grey, and Carbon Crystal Black. These are unique to the EV, while the ICE model is offered in Glacier Blue, Canyon Black, Zircon Grey, and Snowy White.

The similarities carry over inside as well, retaining the same 13.2-inch centre touch screen and digital instrument cluster. The car still features the TÜV-certified anti-bacterial, scratch-resistant, and low-VOC faux leather interior. This time, it’s finished with blue stitching and piping to signify its electrification.
Being an EV, the Jaecoo J5 EV doesn’t have an engine under the bonnet, allowing Omoda Jaecoo to fit a 35-litre front trunk (frunk), adding more storage solutions aside from its 480-litre boot at the rear. Other equipment includes a 540-degree surround-view camera, a 50-watt wireless charger, and a comprehensive suite of ADAS features.
For now, Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia has yet to reveal the launch date of the Jaecoo J5 EV. However, with bookings now open and test drive units already available, the EV should be launching very soon.
