Avatr 06T: Near 1,000hp all-electric super wagon debuts at Beijing, could be heading to Malaysia!

Changan Automobile’s premium brand Avatr has unveiled the jaw-dropping 968hp (712kW) 06T sports wagon at the Auto China 2026 currently being held at Beijing, and it could well make its way to Malaysia in the not-too-distant future.

As the fiercer sibling to the Avatr 06 four-door saloon, the sexy wagon-esque silhouette of the 06T drapes over a cutting-edge powertrain with computing power to match. While the Avatr 06T is available as a range extender with up to 1,250km (CLTC) of range, it’s the flagship electric variant which packs all the essential performance goodies.

How about a three-motor AWD configuration (two at the rear) capable of dispatching the 0-100km/h benchmark in just 2.78 seconds, and delivering 741km in range (CLTC)? To match the rapid performance is an equally efficient 800-volt architecture with ultra-fast 5C charging capable of hitting 80% state of charge from 30% in less than 10 minutes, courtesy of CATL’s 5C Shenxing 89.33kWh battery pack, which underpins the Avatr 06T.

The Avatr 06T’s credentials are further backed up by independent control for the motors which power the rear wheels and a suspension system with active damping. And of course, no Avatr would not be complete without it being fitted with Huawei’s latest and greatest Qiakun 896-line, 27-sensor LiDAR-powered advanced driving system. Camera-based side mirrors are carried over from the 06 sedan but the 06T now has a rear windscreen.

If you regard the prospect of seeing an Avatr 06T in our region to be far-fetched, the super wagon is set to be launched in Thailand in December 2026. In fact, the official entry of Changan Automobile in Malaysia is slated to happen within the second half of 2026, with both CKD and CBU on the cards, comprising models from Changan, Deepal, Nevo and Avatr.

As one of the big-four state-owned automobile producers of China, Changan is committed to growing its market share outside of China, as outlined in its Vast Ocean Plan, which targets top 10 global status by 2030 through sales of five million units. In 2025, Changan delivered 2.91 million vehicles to its customers, 85% of which are domestic sales, making it the fourth-largest automotive group in China (after BYD, Geely and Volkswagen).
