While many Chinese carmakers focused on introducing flagship full-sized luxury SUVs at the Beijing Autoshow 2026, Chery’s booth marked a breath of fresh air with the company showing off the Chery QQ3 — a compact electric vehicle (EV) hatchback. Already shown earlier this year at the Bangkok Motorshow as the Chery Q, the car could be on its way to Malaysia sometime in 2027, according to Chery Group officials on the sidelines of the auto show.
The Chery QQ3 takes on the cute and dinky styling commonly seen on Chinese city EVs like the Proton eMAS 5 (stylised as e.MAS 5) and TQ Wuling Bingo. However, despite its compact appearance, the QQ3 is actually larger than expected, just like most of its competitors, measuring 4,195 mm long, 1,811 mm wide, and 1,573 mm tall, with a 2,700 mm wheelbase — putting it close in size to the recently launched Toyota Yaris Cross, while offering a wheelbase similar to the Honda HR-V.
Enough with the comparisons — the Chery QQ3 itself carries a soft and friendly face, featuring a largely closed-off front fascia with a small lower opening, likely for cooling. Its rounded nose is flanked by a pair of circular headlights that integrate the DRLs and main light beams neatly within the units.
Down the sides, the QQ3 keeps things clean and smooth with a familiar hatchback-like silhouette. Complementing the look are 17-inch wheels featuring four-spoke-style covers colour-matched to the car’s exterior.

At the rear, the taillight design mirrors the front’s, and while we weren’t able to get a full view of the back end, it was amusing to see just how many balloon flowers it could fit. For those curious, boot space stands at 375 litres, expandable to 1,450 litres with the rear seats folded, and is further supplemented by a 70-litre front trunk (frunk).
Inside, the car features a very familiar layout that’s synonymous with most Chinese EVs. The centre sits a 15.6-inch infotainment display that’s paired with an 8.8-inch letterbox-style digital instrument cluster. Other comforts include a 50-watt Qi wireless charger, a double-layered centre console, and heated and ventilated front seats with power adjustments.
The Chery QQ3 is built on the company’s new T12 platform, featuring a rear-mounted electric motor for a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) setup. It will be offered with two powertrain options, starting with a 79 hp and 90 Nm version paired with a 29.48 kWh LFP battery, delivering a CLTC range of around 310 km.
The more powerful variant produces 122 hp and 115 Nm, supported by a larger 41.28 kWh battery, extending the range to 420 km under the same CLTC testing standards. Both versions support 85 kW DC fast charging, allowing a 30–80% top-up in just 16.5 minutes.

As for safety, Chery says the car will be equipped with six airbags and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane centring assist. For added convenience, it will also come with a 360-degree camera system and parking assist — further cementing its role as a city car for the masses.
An official from the Chery Group also told us that the QQ3 could make its way to Malaysia soon, potentially under the Chery Q name (as used in Thailand). It will be entering a busy segment, with the Proton e.MAS 5 priced from RM59,800 to RM72,800 and the TQ Wuling Bingo from RM67,800 to RM72,800, meaning Chery Malaysia will have to price it very strategically.
