Proton X70 Sport Edition now available – 600 units only, RM122k for all-black looks

Just a few days after its initial announcement, the Proton X70 Sport Edition has officially launched. Based on the Premium variant of the Proton X70, the new model gains a range of visual upgrades inside and out, giving it a sportier appearance. Oh, and what makes this model special is that it is limited to 600 units nationwide.

Similar to the Proton X50 Sport Edition that was unveiled early last year, the Proton X70 Sport Edition is given the same full-black treatment with hints of red for greater visual contrast. The colour, specifically, is Quart Black and is the same colour that was recently introduced as a standard colour option for the X50. With this, the Sport Edition becomes the only way you can get the X70 in black at the moment.

The black exterior isn’t the only change. The X70 Sport Edition gains red accents across its aerokit for a more aggressive look, along with blacked-out 19-inch alloy wheels. Rounding things off is exclusive Sport Edition badging on the tailgate, giving it that added sense of exclusivity.

Inside, the interior is trimmed in black leatherette and lined with red stitching on the steering wheel, armrests, and seats — the latter is embroidered with Sport Edition logos to remind you that you’ve got the exclusive model. For added convenience, Proton is also including a boot tray.

And that is where the changes stop, as the powertrain remains unchanged, featuring the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 181 hp and 290 Nm of torque. Power is sent exclusively to the front wheels (FWD) via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

As the car is based on the range-topping Premium variant, it is kitted with the full suite of ADAS features. This includes functions such as adaptive cruise control (ACC) with stop-and-go functionality, lane change assist (LCA), and rear cross traffic alert (RCTA).

Proton says the value of the Sport Edition package is worth RM6,000, but they’re only charging an extra RM2,500 over the price of the Premium Variant at RM122,300. To make it even more attractive, Proton is also throwing in an additional RM7,000 rebate, lowering the price to RM115,300 on the road and without insurance.
