Kicking off Proton’s new year is the new 2026 Proton X70 “MC3”, which has just made its official debut in Malaysia. Two variants are available, namely the Executive and Premium. Prices start from RM106,800, on-the-road, without insurance.
- Proton X70 1.5TD Executive – RM106,800
- Proton X70 1.5TD Premium – RM119,800
Proton has streamlined the X70 lineup to just two variants, down from the four offered with the 2024 facelift. Both the Standard and Premium X grades have been axed from the range. Consequently, the entry point for the Proton X70 has increased by RM8,000 over the previous starting price of RM98,800.
That said, with the special launch rebate of RM7,000 for the first 1,500 buyers (more info below), the difference is only a grand. Spec-to-spec, the new 2026 Proton X70 is also RM4,000 cheaper than their comparable variants from before.

The headline feature of the 2026 Proton X70 is the new 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine lifted from the all-new Proton X50. Replacing the outgoing three-cylinder mill, the new turbocharged four-banger produces 181 hp and 290 Nm, with all of that twist sent to the front wheels only via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
That’s an extra 4 hp and 35 Nm over the previous three-banger, although compared to the previously-available 1.8-litre mill, this new 1.5-litre unit here is still a little under in both the horsepower and torque departments.
Nevertheless, Proton claims the X70’s new powertrain achieves a fuel consumption of 6.9 L/100 km, marking a 5.5% efficiency gain over the outgoing X70. Beyond improved fuel economy, the new engine also uses a toothed timing chain that is claimed to operate 25.24% quieter than a standard timing chain. This mechanical refinement contributes to overall noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) performance that Proton says is 4.5% quieter than “industry average”.
The new 2026 Proton X70 also features comprehensive NVH enhancements, which, according to Proton, have improved the overall comfort levels of the X70. These include a reworked suspension setup to dampen low-to-mid frequency road noise, while the rear axle itself has also been refined to provide better handling and strengthened impact resistance. That’s further paired to a reworked steering ratio for a more direct and sharper steering response.

Aside from these mechanical updates, the 2026 Proton X70 has kept the exterior styling completely unchanged from the facelift model introduced in 2024. The front fascia continues to showcase the larger grille with its distinctive songket-inspired pattern, flanked by the slimmer LED reflector headlights. Unlike the outgoing X70, which was equipped with Continental tyres, the new 2026 model now comes with GiTi tyres instead.
Standard exterior equipment of the Proton X70 1.5TD Executive includes:
- Automatic LED headlights with daytime running lights (DRLs) and follow-me home functionality
- LED front fog lamps
- 18-inch alloy wheels
- Automatic rain-sensing windshield wipers
- Roof rails
- Powered tailgate with automatic hands-free operation
The range-topping Proton X70 1.5TD Premium variant is distinguished by its larger 19-inch alloy wheels, while the remainder of its equipment is carried forward entirely from the Executive variant.
Much like the exterior, the cabin remains a familiar space, featuring the same 12.3-inch centre infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and a 7.0-inch digital gauge cluster found in the outgoing model. The standard interior equipment for the Proton X70 1.5TD Executive variant includes:
- Automatic dual-zone climate control
- Leatherette steering wheel and interior upholstery
- Six-way power adjustable driver seat
- Front ventilated seats
- Auto-dimming rearview mirror
- Six-speaker sound system
- Five USB ports
- 12.3-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- 7.0-inch driver’s digital gauge cluster
Stepping up to the Proton X70 1.5TD Premium variants adds the following interior equipment:
- Nappa leather-upholstered steering wheel
- 72-colour rhythmic ambient lighting system
- Additional two-way powered lumbar support for the driver seat
- Four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat with “Boss switch”
- Security tint
One notable omission, however, is the panoramic sunroof; while it was offered on the previous Premium X variant, it has been removed entirely and is no longer available on the Proton X70. The Nappa leather upholstery, previously available on Premium and higher variants, has also been ditched completely for leatherette seats across the board.
For safety and convenience, the 2026 Proton X70 comes equipped as standard with a walk-away auto lock feature, a 360-degree HD surround-view camera with a 180-degree transparent chassis view, alongside two front parking sensors, four rear parking sensors, and six airbags. To access ADAS features, you’ll have to spring for the range-topping Premium variant, which includes the following additional features:
- Autonomous emergency braking (AEB)
- Forward collision warning (FCW)
- Adaptive cruise control (ACC) with stop-and-go functionality
- Intelligent cruise control (ICC)
- Lane departure warning (LDW)
- Lane departure prevention (LDP)
- Lane centring control (LCC)
- Traffic sign information (TSI)
- Intelligent high-beam control (IHBC)
- Lane change assist (LCA)
- Rear cross traffic alert (RCTA)
- Rear collision warning (RCW)
- Door opening warning (DOW)
- Tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS)
- Four front parking sensors
For the 2026 Proton X70, four exterior colours are available across the range. These include Snow White, Armour Silver, Jet Grey, and Marine Blue. Notably, Ruby Red has been removed from the palette and is no longer available for the 2026 model.
The 2026 Proton X70 is priced from RM106,800. Included in the price is a five-year unlimited mileage manufacturer’s warranty, a five-year data package (2GB/month), and six times of free labour costs for your scheduled services.
In conjunction with the launch of the 2026 Proton X70, Proton is offering an exclusive launch rebate of RM7,000 for the first 1,500 units registered before 31st March 2026. With the rebate, the sticker price of the Proton X70 drops to RM99,800 and RM112,800, respectively.
Additionally, the company is also offering a trade-in overtrade support of up to RM2,000 for the first 1,500 customers, alongside an upgraded Proton insurance programme. Early birds within this initial 1,500-unit quota will also receive complimentary accessories, including a boot tray, sunshades, and door visors.
