Channel your inner racer with the Proton X50 Sport Edition – RM98k, limited to 1,000 units

First previewed at KLIMS 2024, Proton has just launched a special edition variant of the Proton X50 called the Proton X50 Sport Edition. This limited-run model is capped at 1,000 units and is priced at RM98,300 on-the-road without insurance.

But there’s a catch: that price includes a RM7,000 rebate for January. Without it, the X50 Sport Edition would set you back RM105,300.

So, what makes this X50 so “sporty?” Well, it comes with a Quartz Black paint job with a red-accented body kit that includes a front splitter, side skirts, and a rear skirt. It also rides on 18-inch alloy wheels with a black finish. All these additions give the X50 Sport Edition a look reminiscent of KITT from Knight Rider.

Inside, you’ll find exclusive touches like stainless steel door scuff plates, sport edition carpet mats, a wireless phone charger, and a boot tray. Otherwise, the Sport Edition is based off the existing Premium variant, so expect the same list of equipment too.

Which means you also shouldn’t get your hopes up for any performance enhancements. Since it’s based on the Premium variant, the Proton X50 Sport Edition also gets the less powerful port-injection version of the 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine.

This engine delivers 150 hp and 255 Nm, compared to the more potent direct-injection variant with 177 hp and 255 Nm found in the Flagship variant. It’s paired with the same seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

When it comes to safety, the Proton X50 Sport Edition is equipped with six airbags. However, since it’s based on the Premium variant, it misses out on the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features exclusive to the Flagship variant.

As usual, each Proton X50 purchased comes with a five-year unlimited-mileage warranty and includes a 1GB/month data package for the first five years of ownership, alongside a service package with six-times free labour.
