The biggest change to the new 2026 Proton S70 MC1 lies beneath the bonnet. In place of the three-cylinder mill is now a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder direct-injection engine, shared with the all-new X50 and new X70, which produces 181 hp and 290 Nm of torque — an increase of 31 hp and 64 Nm over the outgoing three-pot unit.
Power is sent to the front wheels via the same seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 7.5 seconds — 1.5 seconds quicker than the outgoing model. Proton also claims improved efficiency, with a fuel consumption figure of 5.7 L/100 km.
Proton says that the engine is now paired with a low inertia and electronically controlled turbocharger, allowing for up to 8% better throttle response thanks to reduced turbo lag. Just like the recently updated Proton X70, the engine also uses a silent-toothed timing chain allowing for a 4% reduction in engine noise compared to the previous three-cylinder mil.

Unlike what’s in the engine bay, however, the car’s exterior changes remain rather conservative. The new 2026 Proton S70 MC1 is differentiated by new headlights, with new repositioned turn signals that are now separate from the daytime running light (DRL) signature, along with new taillight startup animations and alloy wheel designs. The new Aerokit on the Proton S70 Flagship X brings several design enhancements, including a more pronounced front lip with side canards, black side skirting, a rear diffuser-like effect, and a rear bootlid spoiler. For those who opt for the black or white exterior colour options, the Aerokit is also further accentuated with red lining for added sportiness.
Speaking of colours, the new Proton S70 is available in six exterior finishes: Quartz Black, Snow White, Armour Silver, Marine Blue, Space Grey, and Ruby Red — the latter first making its debut on the all-new Proton Saga.
Inside, the new Proton S70 is largely unchanged but introduces interior lighting that can be switched on via a button on the centre console. Apart from that, you can expect the same level of equipment, including the 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch infotainment screen — the latter now with support for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
