The Proton eMAS 7 PHEV measures 4,740 mm in length, 1,940 mm in width, and 1,685 mm in height, riding on a 2,755 mm wheelbase. This makes the PHEV a touch bigger than its EV sibling, placing it on the larger end of the C-segment SUV category. Boot capacity is rated at 528 litres and is expandable to 2,065 litres with the rear seats folded.

Unveiled without camouflage for the first time just a few weeks ago, the Proton eMAS 7 PHEV largely mirrors the exterior design of its Chinese counterpart, the Geely Starship 7. It features a split-headlight design connected by a full-width light signature in front, while at the rear, a model-specific rear fascia design places the number plate on the tailgate rather than the bumper, as seen on the eMAS 7 EV. Standard exterior equipment are as such:

  • LED Headlights
  • Auto Headlights with Follow Me Home
  • Intelligent High Beam Control (IHBC)
  • LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL)
  • 3D Full-length LED Taillights
  • Roof Rails

  • Powered Tailgate

The Proton eMAS 7 PHEV is offered in five exterior colours: Obsidian Black, Lithium White, Mercury Silver, Galena Grey, and Aquamarine Blue. Of these, Mercury Silver, Galena Grey, and Aquamarine Blue make their first local appearance with this model. Complementing this are a choice of two interior upholstery colour options: Alabaster White, and Onyx Black.

Speaking of interiors, the Proton eMAS 7 PHEV features a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 15.4-inch central infotainment display, mirroring the layout found in its EV sibling. The system runs on Flyme Auto OS, with support for English and Malay languages, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and over-the-air software updates. Standard interior equipment includes:

Swapping full electricity for a plug-in hybrid powertrain, the Proton eMAS 7 PHEV features the BHE15PFI 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder dedicated hybrid engine underneath the bonnet, producing 99 hp and 125 Nm of torque. The unit is similar to the one found in the all-new Proton Saga, albeit in a different tune, with Proton claiming a class-leading thermal efficiency of up to 46.5%.

This engine is paired with an 11-in-1 integrated dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT), enabling series-parallel hybrid capabilities. A traction electric motor is integrated into the DHT, delivering 218 hp and 262 Nm to the wheels, resulting in a combined max system output of 262 hp and 262 Nm.

Differentiating the variants are the battery sizes. The Prime and Premium variants are equipped with a CATL-sourced 18.4 kWh LFP battery, offering a claimed EV range of 83 km (WLTP, 105 km NEDC) and a total combined driving range of up to 943 km (WLTP, 1,000 km NEDC). Fuel efficiency for these two variants are rated at 4.3 litres per 100 km.

Sitting at the top of the range, the Premium Plus features a significantly larger 29.8 kWh Aegis Short Blade LFP battery. This extends the electric-only range to 146 km (WLTP, 170 km NEDC) and increases the total combined range to 996 km (WLTP, 1,065 km NEDC). Due to the larger and heavier battery, fuel efficiency takes a slight hit, at a claimed 4.4 litres per 100 km.

Nevertheless, during its booking announcement event, Proton revealed that the eMAS 7 PHEV managed to cover a total distance of 1,104.5 km on a single tank under real-world driving conditions. The journey saw the car travel from Penang to Johor Bahru and back to the Proton Centre of Excellence (COE) in Shah Alam. By the end of the drive, the car reportedly returned a fuel consumption figure of just 4.0 litres per 100 km, with 189 km of range still remaining.

The Prime and Premium variants complete the 0-100 km/h sprint in 8.0 seconds, while the heavier Premium Plus variant achieves the same in 8.2 seconds. All variants of the Proton eMAS 7 PHEV have a top speed of 170 km/h.

Charging capabilities are comprehensive across the range. The Prime and Premium variants support up to 30 kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to be replenished from 30-80% in under 20 minutes. The Premium Plus benefits from an upgraded 60 kW DC charging rate, completing the same charge in under 16 minutes. All variants also support 6.6 kW AC charging and come equipped with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) functionality.

Safety-wise, the Prime variant comes standard with six airbags and a Level 2 ADAS suite, which includes features such as:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
  • Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)
  • Lane Departure Warning and Prevention (LDW)
  • Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
  • Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR)
  • Leading Vehicle Departure Alert (LVDA)
  • Six airbags

The Premium and Premium Plus variants receive an expanded safety suite, adding systems such as:

  • Emergency Lane Keep Assist (ELKA)
  • Rear Collision Warning (RCW)
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Braking (RCTA and RCTB)
  • Blind Spot Detection (BSD)

  • Far Side Airbag (Front Driver and Front Passenger Central Airbag, Seven total airbags)

The Proton eMAS 7 PHEV comes standard in three variants and is priced from RM109,800 to RM129,800 on the road and without insurance. Included in the price is a six-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty and an eight-year/160,000 km high voltage battery and components warranty.

For the first 5,000 customers, Proton will also be offering a RM4,000 special launch rebate. This lowers the total price of the Proton eMAS 7 PHEV down to RM105,800 for the Prime, RM119,800 for the Premium, and RM125,800 for the Premium Plus for the early birds.

Adding on to its launch promotion, Proton is also including a five-year 2GB monthly internet data package for every purchase, alongside a complimentary 7kW wallbox charger, complimentary add-ons with purchase of the eMAS Care insurance package (for the first 3,000 units, or until 31st May 2026), and trade-in rebates worth up to RM1,000 via Carsome (valid until 30th June 2026).
