Stellantis Malaysia has announced that the locally assembled (CKD) Peugeot 408 is set for export to the Taiwanese market. Assembled at the Stellantis Gurun plant, this will be the model’s third export market, following Thailand in 2024 and Cambodia in 2025.
This is made possible, the company says, thanks to its recent EUR1.5 million (approx. RM7 million) investment into the Stellantis Gurun plant, which has received manufacturing line upgrades, including specialised research and development facilities for powertrain calibration and localised parts development.
The Peugeot 408 features an updated 1.6-litre turbocharged PureTech powertrain that is compliant with the Euro 6 efficiency rating. In this configuration, it produces 225 hp (the 408 produces 218 hp in our market), which is similar to the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version, while maintaining a lighter 168 kg kerb weight.
Stellantis ASEAN Managing Director, Isaac Yeo, said, “Our vision to transform Gurun into a key regional driver is taking shape, supported by strategic investments to upgrade this vital facility for both local and export production.”
“This latest development emphasises our commitment to scaling production outputs in Malaysia while extending the breadth of brands and models within the Stellantis portfolio to meet the diverse needs of the region,” he added.

Looking ahead, Stellantis Malaysia plans to strive towards full production capacity at the Gurun plant, targeting exports of 280,000 vehicles to 20 countries across the Asia-Pacific region by 2028.
The plant is also capable of assembling battery electric vehicles (BEV), mild-hybrid electric vehicles (MHEV), and of course, internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. The company added that it will also soon begin CKD operations for Leapmotor BEVs, starting with the Leapmotor C10, following a dedicated EUR5 million (approx. RM24 million) investment.
