Following its regional debut in Thailand, the all-new Volvo ES90 is now open for registrations of interest (ROI) in Malaysia ahead of its official launch in Q1 2026. To mark the occasion, Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) is offering a 2% early-bird incentive for the first 100 units booked between now and 31st March 2026. The ES90 will make its Malaysian debut as a locally assembled (CKD) model, and interested customers can register via the official VCM website, linked here.
Built on the same SPA2 architecture as the Volvo EX90, the ES90 features a profile that blends traditional sedan styling with a sloping, fastback-style roofline. It also features a notably high ride height for a sedan, offering a ground clearance of up to 178 mm. According to Volvo, the ES90 is the marque’s most aerodynamically efficient model to date, boasting a drag coefficient of 0.25 Cd.
Powering the Volvo ES90 in Malaysia is expected to be the same single-motor powertrain that debuted in Thailand. This setup features a rear-mounted electric motor producing 333 hp (245 kW) and 480 Nm. This is juiced by a 92 kWh NMC battery pack, enabling a range of 651 km (WLTP).
Marking the first Volvo to feature an 800V architecture, the ES90 supports DC charging of up to 350 kW. This enables a 10-80% recharge in 22 minutes and allows the ES90 to regain 300 km of range in 10 minutes.
While specifications for the Malaysian CKD variant may vary from the Thai-spec model, the interior of the ES90 in the Kingdom features a 14.5-inch central portrait infotainment display running Volvo’s next-generation Volvo Car UX with Google Built-in.

This is supplemented by a letterbox-style nine-inch digital gauge cluster for the driver. Other interior amenities include heating and ventilation functions for both the front and rear seats, massaging seats for the front occupants, power-reclinable rear seats with a dedicated lounge armrest, four-zone climate control with a PM2.5 air purifier, a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system, and an electrochromic glass roof.
In terms of safety, the Volvo ES90 is powered by the Nvidia Drive AGX Orin core computer, capable of processing over 500 trillion operations per second (TOPS). While VCM has not disclosed the full safety suite for the Malaysia-bound model, global specifications originally featured an array of five radars, seven cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor.
Recent reports, however, have indicated that Volvo has terminated its contract with US-based LiDAR supplier Luminar, citing supply chain risks and contractual obligations. As a result, Volvo has confirmed that the LiDAR sensor will be removed from the Volvo EX90, ES90, and the Polestar 3 starting from 2026 – so it’s unclear if our Malaysian unit will come with one.
In Thailand, the Volvo ES90 is priced from THB2,990,000 (approx. RM386k). However, since the Malaysian-bound ES90 will be locally assembled at VCM’s Shah Alam plant, local pricing is expected to be competitive. This is due to the ongoing excise duty and sales tax exemptions for locally assembled (CKD) EVs in Malaysia, which remain in effect until 31st December 2027.
