XPeng has now produced 1 million cars, 14 months after its 500,000th

XPeng Founder and Chief Executive Officer He Xiaopeng announced at the 2025 Guangzhou Auto Show that the company has officially reached its one-millionth production milestone. Widely shared on the company’s Weibo accounts, this achievement makes XPeng the third Chinese EV startup to hit the one-million mark, following Li Auto and Leapmotor, the latter having reached the milestone a few months earlier.

According to Xiaopeng, the one-million milestone came just 14 months after the company reached 500,000 units – which itself took 82 months from its first production car – marking a rapid acceleration in production growth in recent years.

According to CnEVPost, XPeng’s cumulative deliveries reached 945,588 vehicles by the end of October. The company delivered 42,013 vehicles in that month alone, marking its fourth consecutive month of record-breaking sales. This represented a 1.04% increase from September (41,581 units) and a 75.66% year-on-year jump compared to October last year, which saw 23,917 units delivered.

From January to October 2025, XPeng delivered a total of 355,209 vehicles, reflecting an impressive year-on-year growth of 190.02%, the report added.

Although XPeng’s growth has been impressive, the company is now looking beyond the EV market with the introduction of an internal combustion engine (ICE) powertrain. The first to benefit from this strategy is the XPeng X9 MPV, which launched in China on 20 November in a new “PowerX” extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) guise, where the engine functions solely as a generator.

The new XPeng X9 PowerX EREV features a 1.5-litre turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine producing 150 hp, which functions solely to charge the 63.3 kWh lithium-ion phosphate (LFP) battery pack. The battery then powers the rear motors, delivering 285 hp and 465 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in just eight seconds.

Running on electric power alone, the XPeng X9 PowerX offers a maximum range of 452 km (CLTC). When combined with the generator motor, the company claims a total range of 1,602 km on a single full tank under the same CLTC test cycle.

Aside from its powertrain, the X9 PowerX largely retains the design and features of the fully electric model. The front bumper now features a new, larger grille with active slats, while the steering wheel gets an updated look. Expect it to continue to offer luxuries like zero-gravity seats, Nappa leather upholstery, and a 17.3-inch central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The XPeng X9 PowerX is slated to be a global model, with the company already testing it in over 20 countries. XPeng has reportedly been planning to start local assembly in Malaysia by 2026, where introducing the PowerX could make a lot of sense — especially for buyers who aren’t ready to go fully electric.
