The all-electric Volvo EX90 has received a significant update for the 2026 model year, primarily focused on a new 800-volt electrical architecture that enhances both charging speed and powertrain efficiency.
With the new 800V system and an optimised battery management system, the EX90 can now support DC fast-charging at speeds of up to 350 kW. This allows the SUV to regain up to 250 km of range in just 10 minutes.
While Volvo states the new 800V architecture helps reduce the weight of the battery and electric motors, while delivering “more power for faster acceleration,” the company has not yet released updated powertrain or range specifications.
For context, the outgoing 2025 Volvo EX90 is offered with dual-motor powertrains producing either 402 hp and 770 Nm, or a Performance version with 510 hp and 910 Nm. Both come equipped with a 111 kWh battery pack, which enables a WLTP range of 585 km for the standard variant and 584 km for the Performance variant.

Furthermore, the 2026 Volvo EX90 will also see its ADAS systems updated with improved hardware, with the system now powered by dual Nvidia Drive AGX Orin processors that deliver 500 Trillion Operations Per Second (TOPS).
The addition of this powerful processor has seen the addition of several new ADAS features, most notably Emergency Stop Assist (ESA). This system can bring the car to a safe, controlled stop if it detects that the driver is incapacitated.
Once stationary, a new e-call feature automatically connects the vehicle to an emergency call centre, allowing operators to speak with the occupants and dispatch emergency services if necessary.
Other new ADAS features include expanded automatic emergency steering functionality in darkness, along with Park Pilot assist for parallel parking.
Changes to the 2026 Volvo EX90 is largely underneath the sheet metal; the exterior and overall interior design remain unchanged. However, the cabin does receive one new feature: an electrochromic panoramic sunroof that helps to reduce glare and boost privacy.
There’s also good news for current owners of the Volvo EX90. Volvo has stated that owners of the 2025 model will receive a one-time free upgrade of their car’s core computer through a scheduled visit to a Volvo service centre.
Closer to home, the pre-update Volvo EX90 has been launched in Malaysia in a sole “Ultra Twin” variant, priced at RM442,888. The Malaysian-spec model is equipped with the higher-output dual-motor powertrain, producing 510 hp and 910 Nm. It uses a 111 kWh battery pack that provides a range of 623 km (WLTP).
For charging, it supports up to 11 kW AC and 250 kW DC fast-charging, the latter of which can recharge the battery from 10-80% in approximately 30 minutes.
