The Volvo XC60 has been the Swedish carmaker’s best-selling model for over a decade. As Volvo accelerates its shift toward electrification, with the introduction of electric vehicle (EV) counterparts like the EX90 for the XC90 and the XC40 Recharge for the XC40, its top-selling SUV is next in line with the reveal of the Volvo EX60 slated for January 2026.
Alongside the announcement, Volvo released a teaser image showing the upcoming model’s side profile, revealing a silhouette closely resembling the XC60. Expected to share similar dimensions, it will compete against rivals such as the upcoming BMW iX3 and fully electric Mercedes GLC, as well as the Tesla Model Y.
The teaser image also revealed the thinner “Thor’s Hammer” headlights in front, reminiscent of the larger EX90 flagship EV SUV.
While Volvo hasn’t revealed much about the EX60, the company mentioned, “It will be the first car launched on our latest technology base – delivering a longer electric range than any Volvo car before it, along with a groundbreaking user experience.”

Aligning with its announcement earlier this year, the Volvo EX60 will be the first Volvo model to be built on the new SPA3 platform. The company’s statement hints that the range of the Volvo EX60 is expected to exceed that of the ES90 sedan, which boasts a claimed range of 700 km from a 106 kW battery.
While we await the Volvo EX60’s debut early next year, the Volvo XC60 is still available here in Malaysia with two variants — the base Essential mild hybrid variant and the Recharge PHEV variant, priced from RM328,888 and RM357,888, respectively, on-the-road, and without insurance.

The Volvo XC60 Essential mild hybrid is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 249 hp and 350 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint of 6.9 seconds.
The higher-priced Volvo XC60 Recharge pairs the same 2.0-litre turbo engine with an electric motor for a combined 462 hp and 709 Nm, powered by a 19 kWh battery offering up to 81 km of electric range. An eight-speed automatic sends power to all four wheels, sprinting from 0-100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds thanks to its increased output.
