GWM has revealed its upcoming SUV model for the Mainland China market, via a regulatory filing to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Dubbed the Ora Cat, the new model appears to have essentially given the Ora Good Cat a crossover body style instead of the hatchback that we know.
According to CarNewsChina, the Ora Cat name will likely be destined for the domestic Chinese market, with two alternative names – Ora 5 and Ora i5 – for other markets, as revealed through the MIIT filing. The new crossover will be positioned between the Ora Good Cat and the Ora 07 in global markets.
The new Ora Cat will be the first new model set to be launched under the Ora sub-brand by GWM since 2022. According to reports, the long gap in product momentum has dropped sales numbers for the brand down to just 14,781 units from January through August 2025 in China.
To improve the situation, Ora has announced a product offensive with plans to launch four new models in the short term. The GWM Ora Cat is the first of this new wave and is set to be launched soon in China.

Measuring 4,471 mm long, 1,883 mm wide, and 1,641 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm, the GWM Ora Cat is a larger car than its Ora Good Cat sibling.
Like the Ora Good Cat, the crossover Cat retains the whimsy styling of the former with its circular headlights and unique taillights integrated into the rear windshield. The main difference is a more pronounced front grille with prominent openings, which is a departure from the enclosed front end typically found on EVs like the Good Cat. Reports also indicate that the GWM Ora Cat will be equipped with roof rails and an optional LiDAR sensor.
Detailed powertrain specifications are not yet available, but it is reported that the GWM Ora Cat will be powered by a 204 hp (150 kW) electric motor. This will be juiced by a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery of undisclosed capacity. The filing did confirm, however, that the crossover’s top speed is rated at 170 km/h.
Closer to home, GWM Malaysia is gearing up to launch the Ora Good Cat GT. This version sees the adorable hatch receiving a sportier and more aggressive styling, and will be powered by a front-mounted electric motor that pumps out 171 hp (126 kW) and 250 Nm of torque.
For comparison, this is 28 hp and 40 Nm more powerful than the standard GWM Ora Good Cat sold in Malaysia in two variants, which is priced from RM114,500 to RM144,500.
