When most carmakers offer a “studio mode” in their audio systems, it usually comes in the form of some simple equaliser (EQ) settings. Volvo, however, took it a step further—asking what if they could bring one of the world’s most iconic recording studios into their flagship EX90 SUV itself. And that’s exactly what they did with the new “Abbey Road Studios Mode”.
In case you didn’t know, Abbey Road Studios is quite possibly the most famous recording studio in the UK. The studio has recorded for many legendary artists, including the Rolling Stones, Queen, and – of course – the Beatles, who famously named one of their albums after Abbey Road.
The Abbey Road Studios Mode was developed by Bowers and Wilkins together with the studio themselves. Volvo says the technology is inspired by the studio’s acoustic characteristics that were embraced by many legendary artists. The mode comes with several presets for different styles and sounds.
If you’re up for it, there is also the Producer Mode which allows listeners to engineer their own sound including adjusting the tone, sound-staging and acoustics of your sound.
Abbey Road Studios Mode will be available as an over-the-air (OTA) update free of charge for the EX90, if fitted with the Bowers and Wilkins High Fidelity Audio system.

Abbey Road Studios Mode joins the car’s already impressive list of audio settings, including Focus Mode, Stage Mode, and Concert Hall. Focus Mode directs sound to specific areas—whether the whole cabin, the driver’s seat, front, or rear. Stage Mode recreates the feel of a live stage with adjustable intensity and envelopment. Concert Hall Mode mimics the acoustics of Sweden’s renowned Gothenburg Concert Hall.
General Manager of Abbey Road, Jeremy Hufflemann, said, “The Abbey Road Studios Mode brings the unique sound of our spaces and equipment to the Bowers & Wilkins system in the Volvo EX90 for the first time, allowing the driver to shape and personalise the sound in the car for an unparalleled listening experience. We are hugely proud of this collaboration, and excited for Volvo customers to experience this landmark technology.”
