Volvo EX90 wins 2024 World Luxury Car Award

The all-electric Volvo EX90 has been awarded the prestigious title of 2024 World Luxury Car at the World Car Awards. Proudly described by Volvo as its “most technologically advanced and safest car to date,” the EX90 received the honor from a jury of 96 automotive journalists representing 30 countries.

The EX90 was praised by the judges for its “Scandinavian luxury”, all-electric performance, and advanced safety features, Volvo noted in a press release.

For the latter, the EX90 is the first Volvo model to feature a LiDAR sensor unit, mounted above the windscreen. This enables a large array of driver assistance (ADAS) features, including the next-gen Pilot Assist system, and can identify objects in its surroundings in real-time even in the dark.

Inside, the seven-seater electric SUV also houses the Driver Understanding system which uses two cameras, capacitive steering wheel sensors, and a patented software to identify the driver’s conditions. Depending on the situation, it can play visual alerts, manipulate stereo volumes, and even stop the car safely.

The safety system in the EX90 is powered by an Nvidia computing system, which also enables other innovative features, such as Occupant Sensing that uses highly sensitive sensors to accurately detect the tiniest movements inside the cabin at “sub-millimetre scale”, preventing any younger passengers or pets from being left behind.

The Volvo EX90’s silent cabin – said to be one of the quietest in the segment – has also contributed to its win at the 2024 World Car Awards. Complementing the high-class ambience is the Nordico interior – a leather-free upholstery made from recycled and bio-attributed materials.

At the centre of the interior features a 14.5-inch infotainment display powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Cockpit Platform with Google built-in. The car is capable of over-the-air updates and can receive more advanced features like autonomous driving capabilities in the future.

Powering the car is a dual-motor setup that powers all-four wheels. Combined, it makes 517 hp and 910 Nm and goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. It features a 111 kWh Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) battery that charges from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes via 250 kW DC charging while 11kW of AC charging will take 10 hours for a full charge.

In Malaysia, the car is only offered in one variant, the “Ultra Twin” priced from RM442,888. To know more, check out our launch article of the Volvo EX90 here.
