Johor Premium Outlets to be Southeast Asia’s largest DC charging hub – first public 1 MW charger

Genting Simon, which manages Johor Premium Outlets, has announced plans to deploy 500 EV chargers, creating the largest fast-charging EV hub in Southeast Asia.

These chargers will include DC fast chargers with power outputs ranging from 280 kW to 1 MW, the latter being the first publicly accessible 1 MW charger in the region.

This initiative is a result of a strategic partnership with Yinson Greentech’s chargEV and DC Handal as service providers.

The chargers are designed to accommodate a variety of vehicles, including a fleet of fully electric (EV) shuttle buses operated by Johor Premium Outlets, which transport passengers to the mall from Johor Bahru border checkpoints and other key public transport hubs in the area.

Additionally, hourly and daily EV car rentals will be available through a strategic partnership with GoCar and drivEV.

According to PLAN Malaysia’s MEVNet dashboard, the government’s public portal for EV charger availability, there are currently 3,611 public charging bays (from 1,200 locations) in operation in Malaysia as of today. Among those, 2,516 are AC chargers and 1,095 DC fast chargers.
