Tesla opens four EV Supercharger locations in Klang Valley to other makes – RM1.80/kWh

Tesla has currently opened four Supercharger locations in the Klang Valley to non-Tesla owners, with rates starting at RM1.80/kWh. This can be reduced for those with a monthly membership subscription, which the Tesla app lists at USD12.99 (approx. RM51) per month. Once subscribed, the discounted member rates follow a dynamic pricing model, with prices ranging from as low as RM0.99/kWh to RM1.08/kWh depending on the specific location and the time of day you choose to charge. The available locations are as follows:

  • Kuala Lumpur – Pavilion KL (Eight stalls available)
  • Shah Alam – i-City Finance Avenue (Four stalls available)
  • Putrajaya – IOI City Mall (Four stalls available)
  • Dengkil – Gamuda Cove (Six stalls available)

The opening of these Superchargers fulfils a key commitment made by Tesla under the BEV Global Leaders initiative agreement by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI). This initiative is designed to accelerate local EV adoption by exempting Tesla from traditional import rules in exchange for infrastructure investment. A core requirement of this agreement is that Tesla must install at least 50 DC chargers with a minimum output of 180kW and ensure that at least 30% of the network is accessible to EVs from other makes.

Depending on the location, these sites are equipped with either V3 or V4 Superchargers. While both versions deliver peak charging rates of up to 250 kW, the newer V4 units at i-City Finance Avenue and IOI City Mall feature significantly longer cables. This makes them much more convenient for non-Tesla EVs, as the shorter cables on the V3 units at Pavilion KL and Gamuda Cove may struggle to reach charging ports located on the side or front of certain vehicle models.

To ensure a successful connection at these V3 Superchargers, you may need to park closer to the charger or slightly off-centre within the stall. If the cable cannot reach your vehicle comfortably, do not attempt to stretch it or park in a manner that obstructs adjacent stalls.

Additionally, a congestion fee of RM2 per minute applies if the station is busy and the vehicle remains connected after reaching an 80% charge or completing a session. A five-minute grace period is provided to move the vehicle before these charges begin.

To utilise a Supercharger, non-Tesla owners must first download the Tesla app from the App Store or Google Play and register for an account. Before arriving at a station, you must add a payment method and billing address in the Wallet section of the app. Once logged in, tap Find a Charger to view the map. The current four locations in the Klang Valley will appear; tap your preferred site and select the Charge Here icon.

When you arrive at the stall, follow these steps:

  • Check the post number: Every Supercharger post has a unique identifier at its base (e.g., 4A or 5B).
  • Select the stall in the app: Choose the corresponding post number in the app and tap Start Charging.
  • Plug in immediately: You must plug the charger into your vehicle within two minutes of selecting the stall in the app, or the session will time out, and you will need to restart the process.
  • Monitor the session: You can track your charging progress and fees in real-time through the app.

Once your charging session is complete, you must end the process via the Tesla app before attempting to unplug. Tap “Stop Charging” in the app and unlock the connector. After the app confirms the session has ended, remove the connector and return it to its designated holster and move your car immediately to avoid idle fees.

Current Tesla owners who wish to charge a different EV can use their existing account by navigating to the main menu in the Tesla app and selecting Charge Your Other EV. This allows you to manage sessions for non-Tesla vehicles without needing a separate login or a new payment setup.
