Deepal S07 makes a statement in safety with 5-star ANCAP rating – coming to Malaysia in 2025

Ahead of its planned launch in Malaysia, the Deepal S07 has now received a safety rating from the Australian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP), and it’s a full five stars.

Tested under the 2023-2025 criteria, the medium-sized SUV scored 38.03 points out of 40 points in Adult Occupant Protection, 42.62 points out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection, 47.21 points out of 63 in Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 14.06 points out of 18 in Safety Assist.

According to ANCAP’s testing, the Deepal S07 is on par with the Toyota Camry in terms of physical protection for adult occupants with a 95% score. In all three of the full-width frontal, side impact, and oblique pole tests, the driver and passenger dummies are protected very well from the impact, the test noted.

An 86% score for Child Occupant Protection also demonstrated good protection for younger passengers, with full points awarded for front and side dynamic tests.

For Vulnerable Road User Protection, the Deepal S07 scored 74%. Here, the tests show mixed results when it comes to reducing any damage caused to pedestrians. While good performance against motorcyclists and cyclists is seen, the Deepal S07’s achilles heel is seen with the stiff windscreen pillars and the sharp edges on the bonnet.

Similarly, the Safety Assist tests netted the Deepal S07 a score of 78%. The autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system showed good performance with car-to-car collisions being avoided, even in junction test scenarios. It even excelled with flying colours in the head-on functionality tests.

Other elements that contributed to the Deepal S07’s high score can be seen with the car’s retractable door handles, where the vehicle can still be opened even when the car has no power. In addition, the electric windows can still operate even after being submerged in water.

Furthermore, Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK) also played a part in making the Deepal S07 a safer car, according to ANCAP tests.

The Deepal S07 has recently been previewed in Malaysia. While no detailed specifications have been divulged yet, we expect the Tesla Model Y rival in Malaysia to mirror its counterpart in Thailand and Singapore, which means a single motor on the rear axle making up to 258 hp and 320 Nm of torque, paired to two different battery sizes for a fully electric driving range of 485 km (NEDC) and 560 km (NEDC) depending on the variant.
