Hyundai Creta now also available as EV in India – up to 473 km range

Hyundai’s best-seller in India, the Hyundai Creta SUV, is getting an electrification treatment for 2025. Housed in last year’s ICE Creta’s body, the all-new electric drivetrain that powers the Creta Electric will come in two different battery pack options: A 51.4 kWh (Long Range) battery with a range of 473 km in a single full charge whilst the 42 kWh battery boasts a 390 km in one charge.

Technical and performance figures are still mostly under wraps, but Hyundai Motor India did say that the Long Range battery can go from 10-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds.

Hyundai also mentions that the battery can be charged from 10-80% in under an hour at 58 minutes with a DC charger. AC charging with a standard 11 kW AC wall box can fully charge the battery from 10-100% in four hours.

The Hyundai Creta Electric is set to be available in four variants: Executive, Smart, Premium, and Excellence with a total of ten colourways. Eight in monotone and two in dual-tone which includes three matte colours. One such colour is the new and exclusive Ocean Blue Metallic with black roof.

The overall shape and profile of the Creta Electric takes the same design cues from its ICE-powered siblings. The electrified model does how ever feature a unique pixelated front grille, alongside new front and rear bumper design to complement the signature Hyundai pixel look of the LED lamps.

The Creta Electric also features Active Air Flaps (AAF) that are strategically placed to provide practical aero performance to cool certain vehicle components and improve aerodynamics. The Creta Electric also sits on 17-inch aero-optimized wheel designs with low rolling resistance tyres to improve aero performance and range efficiency.

The inside of the Hyundai Creta Electric comes with a slew of technologies found in Hyundai’s portfolio of EVs, including i-Pedal technology which provides regenerative charging to the car when accelerating, slowing down, or braking.

Additionally, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) lets users power other electronic devices inside and outside of the vehicle. Other features include a digital key lets users lock, unlock, and start the vehicle using their smartphone or smartwatch for select models only.

The electrification of the Hyundai Creta is in line with the ‘Progress for Humanity’ theme. HMIL is using the Hyundai Creta Electric to further its goals to foster sustainable mobility, focus on various aspects related to battery localization, developing cutting-edge EV infrastructure and innovative vehicles.

HMIL is also actively seeking to install 600 fast public EV charging stations across India in seven years to make EV adoption more accessible for the Indian market. This will help kickstart the early adoption of EVs in the country in tandem with the myHyundai app’s ‘EV Charge’ feature to provide access to over 10,000 EV charging points in the country.

Closer to home, the latest iteration of the non-EV Hyundai Creta was released in Malaysia January 2024 in pre-facelift form. Read our launch coverage of the SUV here.
