BMW Group Malaysia expands regional parts distribution centre in Johor, largest in Asia Pacific

BMW Group Malaysia recently commemorated the 20th anniversary of its regional parts distribution centre (PDC) with a landmark expansion. The facility now spans 65,000 square meters, making it the largest of its kind in the Asia Pacific region for the BMW Group.

Established in 2004 at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) in Gelang Patah, the PDC relocated to its current, state-of-the-art facility in 2016. This expansion marks a significant milestone in BMW’s commitment to operational excellence and investment in Malaysia.

The PDC caters to the parts demands of over 20 countries, including the Philippines, South Korea, Australia, and Hong Kong, strengthening Malaysia’s position as a key automotive hub in the region.

“We celebrate 20 years of our Regional Parts Distribution Centre in Malaysia, we reflect on the significance of this facility, not only in terms of the success of the BMW Group as the leading premium automaker in Malaysia, but also in reinforcing the status of Malaysia as a strategic logistics hub for the group in the Asia Pacific region,” said, BMW Group Malaysia, Managing Director, Benjamin Nagel.

The expansion introduces several key improvements, including a purpose-built high voltage (HV) battery storage area and a modern very narrow aisle (VNA) racking system. The facility’s two-story configuration allows for future expansion, while the integration of a solar panel roof supports BMW Group’s broader sustainability initiatives.

With an on-time picking and packing rate of over 99%, the PDC ensures that 99.5% of items are delivered in excellent condition, while managing nearly 52,000 part numbers, including around 30 high-voltage batteries.

BMW Group Malaysia is also committed to sustainable mobility solutions. As of Q3 2024, one in five cars sold by the group is an EV, demonstrating the increasing popularity of electric vehicles in Malaysia.
