Geely EX5 launches in Thailand – CBU from China, from approx. RM111k

The Geely EX5 (known as the Galaxy EX5 in China) has landed in Thailand, and is available in two variants: Pro and Max. Prices in the Land of Smiles start at THB859,000 (approx. RM111k) for the Pro and THB949,000 (approx. RM123k) for the Max. Just like its twin, the Proton eMAS7 (at least at launch), the Geely EX5 will be fully imported (CBU) from China. The launch marks the EX5’s debut in an international market outside of China.

Like the upcoming Proton eMAS7, both variants of the Geely EX5 in Thailand share the same powertrain, featuring a single front-mounted electric motor that produces 218 hp and 320 Nm. This translates to a 0-100 km/h time of 6.9 seconds for the Pro variant and 7.1 seconds for the Max variant. Both have a top speed of 175 km/h.

Intriguingly, both variants utilise the same 60.22 kWh Aegis Short Blade battery from Geely – unlike Proton’s strategy with the eMAS7, where the base variant gets a smaller 49.52 kWh pack. The two variants do differ slightly in range, however.

The Pro variant achieves a NEDC-rated range of 495 km, while the Max variant gets a slightly shorter range of 490 km (NEDC), presumably due to its added weight, which is also reflected in the slightly slower century sprint time for the Max variant.

For charging, the Geely EX5 supports AC charging up to 11 kW and DC fast charging up to 100 kW, enabling a 30-80% charge in just 20 minutes. It also supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality up to 3.3 kW.

Aside from the powertrain, the rest of the specifications here do largely mirror that of the upcoming Proton eMAS7. The Geely EX5 features 18-inch rims wrapped in Giti tyres, LED headlights and taillights with a light bar, and flush door handles as standard. Three driving modes are available: Eco, Normal, and Sport.

Five colours are offered for the Geely EX5 in Thailand: Dawn White, Morning Mist Grey, Midnight Black, Streamer Silver, and Aqua Marine Green.

Moving to the interior, the Geely EX5 sports a 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 16-speaker FlyMe sound system. The driver gets a 10.2-inch digital instrument display. A wireless charging pad and an automatic climate control system with a PM2.5 filter are standard across both variants.

The Max variant adds a panoramic sunroof, a driver’s head-up display, a zero-gravity front passenger seat, ambient lighting, and an electronic tailgate. The interior is available in two colour schemes: Cloud White/Black and Dusk Blue/Black.

Safety-wise, the Thai Geely EX5 comes equipped with six airbags and a 360-degree surround-view camera as standard. The Max variant adds a full suite of ADAS features, including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and rear collision warning.

Closer to home, the upcoming Proton eMAS7 (stylized as e.MAS 7) is now officially open for booking in Malaysia. The national carmaker’s first fully electric (EV) model will be offered in two variants: Prime and Premium, with pricing estimated to start from RM120,000 – although the pricing for the EX5 in Thailand could hint at an even lower starting price than initially announced.
