Following its preview in August, MG Motor Malaysia has now launched the MG5 in Malaysia in a single variant priced from RM93,900. MG Motor Malaysia is offering a rebate of RM7,000 for a limited time only, as an “introductory offer’, bringing the price down to RM86,900. The MG5 is fully imported (CBU) from Thailand and marks the brand’s first non-electrified model in Malaysia, following the introduction of its first two models, the MG4 and MG ZS earlier this year.
Under the hood of the MG5 is a 1.5 litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine making 114 hp and 150 Nm of torque, paired to a continuous variable transmission (CVT) simulating eight speeds to drive the front wheels. All around disc brakes are standard on the MG5, with ventilated discs at the front and solid discs at the back.
The MG5 measures 4,675 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width and 1,480 mm in height, technically making it a C-segment sedan, and is very similar in size with the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic. However, it has a slightly shorter wheelbase than the other two at 2,680 mm. The company is marketing the MG5 as a B-segment sedan, claiming it to be one of the “longest and widest” in its class.
A distinctive cat-fish-like profile gives the MG5 a unique presence on the road, accented by sharp edges culminating in a sharp edge. This bold front-end aesthetic gives way to a more restrained rear design. While some might prefer a more consistent design language from front to back, this contrast of styles adds a unique character to the MG5.

Inside, the centre console and infotainment screen is angled towards the driver so that all controls are within easy reach. A prism-patterned piano black trim panel on the passenger side of the dashboard is paired with aluminium accents for the look of a premium interior.

To recap, the MG5 is available as a single variant for RM93,900 on the road, without insurance. Prices are inclusive of a 5-year unlimited mileage general warranty and a 7-year unlimited mileage warranty on the powertrain.
