Following the launch of two of its electric cars in Malaysia, MG Motor Malaysia has now previewed the sedan MG5, which is not an electric car. Only one variant will be available upon launch. Only previewer for the time being, the MG5 has been confirmed to be priced below RM100,000.
The MG5 is a petrol-powered sedan that measures 4,675 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width, and 1,480 mm in height, with a wheelbase measuring 2,680 mm long. It sits on a set of 17-inch alloy wheels that are wrapped in 215/50R17 tyres.
Standard items on the MG5 in Malaysia include:
- LED headlights with auto on/off system
- Electrically foldable and adjustable side mirrors with turn signals
- Daytime running lights
- LED taillights and 3rd brake lights
- Rear fog lights
- The range-topping variant adds:
- Powered sunroof
- Rear spoiler
- Red caliper
- 17-inch Tomahawk alloy wheels
Powering the MG5 is a 1.5-litre naturally-spirated engine that makes 114 hp (metric) at 6,000 rpm and 150 Nm at 4,500 rpm. All power is transmitted to the front wheels only via a continuously variable transmission (iCVT) with 8 simulated gears. The MG5 comes with disc brakes all around, with ventilated discs at the front and solid discs at the back.
Inside, the MG5 comes equipped with the following standard items:

In terms of safety, the MG5 in Malaysia comes equipped with the following items:

Included in the price of the car is a 5-year/unlimited mileage general warranty and a 7-year/unlimited mileage warranty on the powertrain.
