Ahead of its local launch, Jaecoo Malaysia held a media preview of the Omoda C9, a mid-sized D-segment SUV. It is expected to be launched in December this year. It will be offered in two variants: the 2WD variant and the AWD variant.
The Omoda C9, also known as the Exeed RX or Yaoguang in China, is a five-seater mid-size SUV built on the M3X platform. First revealed in February 2023, the Omoda C9 measures 4,775 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, and 1,671 mm tall, with a wheelbase spanning 2,800 mm. These dimensions position it as larger than the Honda CR-V but comparable to the Proton X90 and Chery Tiggo 8 Pro in size.

The Omoda C9 showcases a modern design aesthetic, featuring sleek lines, thin LED headlights, LED taillights, a flowing roofline, a powered tailgate and quad exhaust tips. The Omoda C9 showcases design elements reminiscent of the Range Rover Velar, including the pop-out door handles. This reflects the influence of Chery’s partnership with JLR.
Performance-wise, the Malaysian-bound Omoda C9 is equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain delivers 257 hp (metric) and 400 Nm of torque and drives the front wheels only. In addition to the Normal, Sport and Eco driving modes, exclusive to the AWD variant is the addition of the Off-Road, Snow, Mud and Sand driving modes.

Both variants feature a modern interior design with a floating centre console separating the front seats, a 24.6-inch display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a head-up display, paddle shifters, a 50W wireless charger, e-latch door release, rhythmic ambient lighting and a three-zone air conditioning with built-in fragrance. It is also equipped with a 2-way adjustment rear passenger electric seats with a heated function.
Exclusive to the AWD variant is a 14-speaker Sony sound system and a driver’s seat built-in headrest speaker. Further details about the Omoda C9’s equipment will be revealed at its official launch.

Safety-wise, the Omoda C9 is equipped with the brand’s Level 2.5 advanced driving assistance system (ADAS). This includes Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Front Collision Warning (FCW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Driver Monitoring System (DMS), and Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK). The Omoda C9 is also equipped with a digital video recorder (DVR) and a 540-degree around-view monitor.
Aside from the Omoda C9, Jaecoo has also previously previewed the J8 here in Malaysia. The Jaecoo J8 has been previously hinted at a local launch by Q4 2024, and given that it shares the same market segment as the Omoda C9, it could be interesting to see how Chery plans to differentiate the two models to consumers.

Registration of interest for the Omoda C9 has opened with an estimated price tag of under RM200,000. The 2WD variant is estimated at RM185,000 while the AWD variant is estimated at RM195,000. The Omoda C9 is expected to be launched in December this year.
