You might be wondering why the Omoda C9, a nameplate associated with Chery, is being launched under the Jaecoo brand. The most likely reason is that Chery intends to position the Omoda C9 as a more premium offering in the Malaysian market, therefore using the Jaecoo brand to reinforce this strategy.
Reflecting this, the Omoda C9 has a stately presence with its large front grille and distinctive daytime running lights (DRL) that flow down the front bumper. The overall design evokes luxury, further enhanced by colour options like “Matt Grey”, which highlights the SUV’s opulence.
Inside, the second row is where you want to be. With power-reclining rear seats, you can lounge back, soak in the views from the panoramic sunroof, and enjoy your favourite tunes on the 14-speaker Sony sound system, complete with two integrated speakers in the driver’s headrest.

For maximum legroom, the front passenger seat can be adjusted all the way forward (provided no one is sitting there, of course!). And to top it off, there’s a built-in air fragrance system to keep things fresh.
Powering the Omoda C9, is a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four engine, generating 257 hp and 400 Nm. This makes it one of the most powerful SUVs in its price range. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and buyers can choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations.
The Omoda C9 2WD variant has three drive modes (Eco, Normal, and Sport), while the AWD variant boasts seven: Eco, Normal, Sport, Sand, Mud, Snow, and Off-road. We doubt the snow mode will see much action in Malaysia, though!
Prices for the Omoda C9 in Malaysia start at RM168,800 on-the-road without insurance for the 2WD variant and RM188,800 for the AWD variant. Included in the price is a seven-year/150,000 km warranty.
