2026 Omoda C9 PHEV launched in Malaysia – 537 hp, 1,100 km range, RM209k

Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia has launched the new Omoda C9 PHEV, introducing the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant of the Omoda C9 to the local market. A single variant is available and is priced at RM208,800, on-the-road, without insurance.

For comparison, the PHEV variant is RM20,000 more expensive than the Omoda C9 AWD, which is priced at RM188,800, and RM40,000 more expensive than the Omoda C9 2WD variant, which retails for RM168,800.

Under the bonnet, the Omoda C9 PHEV features Omoda Jaecoo’s “Super Hybrid System” (SHS), which is the same series-parallel hybrid setup found in the Jaecoo J7 PHEV.

This comprises of a 1.5-litre turbocharged straight-four engine producing 143 hp/215 Nm. This is paired with a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) and two electric motors on the front axle that makes 225 hp/390 Nm. A third motor sits on the rear axle, adding a further 238 hp/310 Nm. All in, the Omoda C9 PHEV delivers a combined output of 537 hp and 650 Nm.

Curiously, these figures are a fair bit lower than those quoted during the preview of the C9 PHEV, where the combined output was touted at 605 hp and 915 Nm. Despite the lower output, the 0-100 km/h sprint is still claimed to take 4.9 seconds, identical to the preview figure, while the top speed is capped at 180 km/h.

Equipped with a 34.46 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, the Omoda C9 PHEV has a pure EV range of 169 km (NEDC) and a claimed combined range of 1,100 km, with a full charge and a tank of petrol, thanks to its combined fuel consumption of 1.4 L/100km (NEDC).

Charging is supported via AC at 6.6 kW, which takes 5.5 hours to charge from 30-100%. DC charging is supported at 70 kW, enabling a 30-80% recharge in 25 minutes.

On the exterior, the Omoda C9 PHEV mirrors its ICE counterpart, featuring the same futuristic design and 20-inch alloy wheels. It also gets a large panoramic sunroof and the Continuous Damping Control (CDC) suspension system from the petrol variant. Main differences on the exterior are the addition of a charging port on the left side of the SUV, along with an extra “PHEV” emblem on the rear tailgate. The lower lip of the front bumper also has a slightly different design from the petrol Omoda C9.

Standard exterior equipment on the Omoda C9 PHEV includes:

  • Automatic LED headlights with daytime-running lights (DRLs)
  • LED taillights
  • Dynamic turn signals on the front
  • Automatic windshield wipers
  • Power-folding heated side mirrors

Drivers will also find a fresh energy flow diagram tucked into the digital gauge cluster.
