All-new Nissan Patrol debuts – drops V8 for new 3.5L V6 twin turbo engine

Nissan’s large and robust SUV (which we don’t get here in Malaysia), has been granted with an all-new iteration. Unveiled in Abu Dhabi, the seventh-generation Nissan Patrol continues on the legacy of its name, albeit with two cylinders less.

With the freedom of an all-new body, the seventh-generation Patrol revamps the namesake’s appearance with a more angular look that wasn’t achievable with the underpinnings of the sixth-gen model (which underwent 2 facelifts). Now sporting a more “upright” appearance, the seventh-gen model is said to showcase an “unbreakable” appearance that is reflective of its rugged capabilities.

Among the equipment on the outside of the all-new Nissan Patrol are Nissan’s signature V-motion grille, enhanced Double C-shaped headlights (with Adaptive Driving Beam), and a full-width light bar at the rear. Completing the “unbreakable” appearance of the seventh-gen Patrol is a set of 22-inch alloy wheels which also function to provide high ground clearance (besides enhancing its road presence).

A small but thoughtful feature on the all-new Nissan Patrol would be the introduction of a puddle lamp that auto-activates as the occupant approaches or upon unlocking with the key fob. The puddle light projects the silhouette of the Nissan Patrol and a test that reads, “Since 1951”.

Powering the seventh-generation Nissan Patrol is a new 3.5-litre V6 twin-turbo engine that pushes out a maximum output of 425 hp and 700 Nm. According to Nissan, the new V6 mill has a 7% higher power output and a 25% higher boost compared to the 5.6-litre V8 engine that it replaces. The all-new Patrol is also available with a less powerful 3.8-litre V6 naturally aspirated engine that puts out 316 hp and 386 Nm. Regardless of the engine, the Patrol gets a 9-speed automatic transmission as standard.

To allow users to get the most out of the all-new Nissan Patrol, Nissan has equipped it with 6 distinct driving modes – Standard, Sand, Rock, Mud/Rut, Eco, and Sport. The All-New Patrol also introduces a 4WD transfer mode interlock system (a first for Nissan) that allows drivers to seamlessly switch between modes and tackle challenging landscapes with ease.

Further enhancing the capabilities of the seventh-generation Nissan Patrol is a standard adaptive air suspension system. This allows for adjustable ride height, effortless on-road cruising, and off-road performance. In addition to improved aerodynamic efficiency, it also facilitates easy passenger entry and exit, as well as convenient loading and unloading of gear.

Inside, the seventh-gen Patrol has been crafted with “Premium Comfort” in mind. The refreshed Patrol’s interior features quilted leather seats with detailing inspired by “Kumiko”, the traditional Japanese woodcraft. On selected trims, the seats feature massage functionality and eight-way adjustment.

As for screens, the all-new Nissan Patrol comes with a 28.6-inch horizontal monolith display which is essentially the combination of two 14.3-inch displays that provide a comprehensive view of navigation, entertainment, and vehicle information. Rear-seat passengers are also catered for with optional dual 12.8-inch screens, supporting entertainment on the go, via Miracast, HDMI or USB inputs. Complementing the digital experience is the integration of Google Built-in which integrates navigation, security, and entertainment into one platform.

The All-New Nissan Patrol is also equipped with a 12-speaker Klipsch Premium Audio system. For selected trims. DynamicAudioReveal™ technology ensures consistent clarity and depth by adjusting audio equalization based on environmental conditions, while DJX® 3D Surround envelops occupants in a rich, concert-like sound experience.

Nissan’s ProPILOT technology makes its regional debut in the All-New Nissan Patrol, supporting drivers with a blend of adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance. The system leverages navigation data to adjust vehicle speed for curves and interchanges.

The Patrol transforms situational awareness with Panorama View, featuring ‘Ultra-Wide View’ and ‘Invisible Hood View’, with Invisible-to-Visible technology projecting real-time images of obstacles and navigation cues onto the infotainment display. The Ultra-Wide View expands the field of vision to 170 degrees, while the innovative Invisible Hood provides a clear view of the area directly beneath the vehicle for safer driving both off-road and in narrow spaces.
