Video: 2024 Xpeng G6, from RM166k with up to 570km range

There’s a new Chinese brand in Malaysia, Xpeng, with its pilot model in the country being the 2024 Xpeng G6. Measuring about the same size as a Tesla Model Y or a Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Xpeng G6 for Malaysia is offered in two variants – the G6 580 Pro at RM165,820 and the G6 755 Pro at RM185,820 (OTR without insurance).

It is the first Chinese EV launched in Malaysia to rival the Tesla Model Y and is decently equipped. The suspension setup for the G6 is a double wishbone configuration at the front and a multi-link configuration at the back. It also comes with a set of 20-inch wheels which are wrapped in a set of Michelin Pilot Sport EV tyres – a rather generous offering at its price point. If you’ve never heard of the Xpeng G6 before, let us give you a quick walkthrough in this video.

Both variants of the Xpeng G6 for Malaysia get a single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) setup, albeit with different maximum power outputs. The 580 pro makes 255 hp and 440 Nm at maximum while the 755 pro makes 282 hp and 440 Nm at maximum. The former does the 0-100 km/h acceleration in 6.6 seconds while the latter does it in 6.2 seconds.

Also differentiating the two variants are their battery packs. The 580 Pro gets a 66 kWh LFP battery that provides 435 km of range (WLTP), while the 755 Pro gets a larger 87.5-kWh NMC battery that provides 570 km of range (WLTP). And just in case you were wondering, the numbers “580” and “755” in the respective variant names reflect the CLTC range of both cars.

To charge, both variants can handle a maximum AC charging rate of 11 kW with a 3-phase supply. This takes 7.5 hours to charge the 580 Pro from 5% to 100% and 9.5 hours to fully charge the 755 Pro from 5% to 100%. As for DC charging, the 580 Pro can handle a maximum DC charging rate of 215 kW while the 755 Pro can handle a maximum charging rate of 280 kW. Both variants take about 20 minutes to charge from 10% to 80% with DC charging.

Included in the price of the 2024 Xpeng G6 for Malaysia is a 5-year/120,000 km general warranty and an 8-year/160,000 km EV battery & motor warranty. The Xpeng G6 is a rather interesting proposition as it is better equipped than the BYD Atto 3 and the Chery Omoda E5 but still manages to be priced below RM200,000.
