If the multiple public sightings still isn’t enough to convince you, maybe this finally would – the Volvo EX30 is now up on Volvo Car Malaysia’s website, with a special page to collect registration of interests, hinting at an official launch imminently.

No details have been announced yet, with the page only stating that the Volvo EX30 “almost here”. Although if you’ve been keeping up with the news, this wouldn’t be all that surprising given that the company has already previously confirmed that the compact SUV will indeed be making its debut in Malaysia this year.

In our region, the Volvo EX30 has already been launched in Thailand and Indonesia. For the former, the compact electric SUV is offered in three variants, including two single-motor variants offering 272 hp (200 kW) and 343 Nm, and a dual-motor Ultra Twin Motor Performance variant with 428 hp (315 kW) and 543 Nm.

All variants are powered by the same 69 kWh (64 kWh usable) nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery pack, giving the Volvo EX30 a driving range of 480 km (WLTP) on the single motor variants, and 460 km on the dual-motor Performance variant.

Over in Indonesia meanwhile, the Volvo EX30 is offered only in single-motor guises, but with two battery pack options to choose from. The entry-level variant, called the Plus, gets a 51 kWh (49 kWh usable) lithium iron phosphate (PFP) battery pack for a range of 344 km (WLTP), while the range-topping Ultra Extended Range variant is powered by the same 69 kWh NMC battery pack as the car in Thailand gets.

For charging, the Volvo EX30 comes with an on-board 11 kW AC charger, which will take roughly eight hours to recharge on the 69 kWh variants. Using a DC fast charger (up to 153 kW) drops the charging time to 26.5 minutes for a 10-80% top up.

We don’t know which of these variants will eventually make its way into Malaysia, but in a press release, the company mentions that the Malaysia-bound EX30 will have “the fastest acceleration of any Volvo car to date”, which seems to suggest that the twin-motor Performance variant will at least be one of the options. The Performance variant completes the century sprint in just 3.6 seconds, onward to a Volvo-standard 180 km/h top speed.

Equipment wise, the Volvo EX30 in Malaysia will also come with an automatic parking feature, “upgraded semi-autonomous Pilot Assist functionality”, alongside an array of cameras, sensors, and radars to enable its advanced safety kit. Inside, the Volvo EX30 will also come with a unique minimalist dashboard design, centred around a 12.3-inch vertical touchscreen in the centre with Volvo’s latest infotainment operating system powered by Google.
