Following the recent patent image leak, new actual images of the second-generation BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe (F74) have surfaced online courtesy of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The car features a major visual overhaul, which can be seen being inspired by the F70 1 Series, which was unveiled last month.
The car features a revised front fascia with slimmer headlights, vertical air intakes, and a near-hexagonal lower grille. This design motif aligns with the design language established by the 1 Series, incorporating the signature diagonal grille pattern.

The upcoming 2 Series Gran Coupe now features flush-fitting door handles. These handles are visible in the third-quarter front image and contribute to a sleeker appearance and improved aerodynamics. In addition to front and rear lighting closely resembling the new 1 Series, the upcoming 2 Series Gran Coupe will feature a range of new wheel designs.
The rear of the vehicle features redesigned taillights, drawing inspiration from the latest X2 model. The iconic BMW roundel is repositioned higher on the boot lid, allowing for a cleaner aesthetic by elevating the number plate. These photos also show an ‘L’ tacked onto the end of the model name, suggesting the car featured is a long-wheelbase version for the Chinese market.

The design of the upcoming 2 Series Gran Coupe is a subtle evolution over the current version, with some of the sharper edges of the current car softened. As with the new 1 Series, it appears the upcoming 2 Series Gran Coupe is a heavy overhaul of the current model rather than an all-new vehicle.
The upcoming 2 Series Gran Coupe will ride the same 2,670 mm wheelbase as the current car and will also be 1,800 mm wide. However, the length will reportedly expand by 185 mm to 4,546 mm and 14 mm lower at 1,445 mm.

In Malaysia, BMW released the 218i Gran Coupe Final Edition back in June 2024. As the name suggests, it should be a swansong model for the current 2 Series, before the new model is unveiled and eventually makes its way onto our shores. Locally assembled here in Malaysia, the current BMW 218i Gran Coupe Final Edition is priced at RM244,400 on the road and without insurance, inclusive of the extended five-year warranty and free service package.
