2024 Jaecoo J6 EV debuts in Malaysia, Defender replica with 501km range

The Jaecoo J6 all-electric SUV which has just made its global debut at the recently held Beijing Motor Show has landed on Malaysian shores. Currently showcased at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, the Jaecoo J6 is an off-road-ready SUV that reminds us of JLR’s Defender.

Dimension-wise, the Jaecoo J6 measures 4,406 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width, and 1,715 in height, and is underpinned by a 2,715 mm long wheelbase. Jaecoo has taken quite a bit of inspiration from JLR’s Defender for the Jaecoo J6’s design, as it looks boxy and futuristic, with some rugged vibes to it.

On the outside, the Jaecoo J6 sports stylish-looking boomerang-shaped LED headlights, along with vertically aligned LED taillights around the back. To go with its futuristic looks, the J6 is also fitted with electric pop-out door handles.

Performance-wise, Jaecoo has yet to confirm the full specifications for the J6. However, it is most likely to share the same underpinnings as the iCar 03. iCar, like Jaecoo, is one of Chery’s sub-brands.

In China, the “03” is available with rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations. According to local Chinese reports, the AWD variant produces 279 hp (metric) of power, enabling the SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.5 seconds. Thanks to a 69.8 kWh battery pack, it can travel as far as 501 km (CLTC) on a single charge.

Moving inside, the J6 features an interior that looks stylish and dare we say, luxurious. Like on the outside, the J6’s interior reminds us once again of JLR’s Defender.

The Jaecoo J6 is packed with modern equipment such as a digital instrument display and a large horizontal touchscreen infotainment head unit. It also has a completely flat floor on its second row, making the rear seats a comfortable place to sit in.

Defender replica or not, the J6 is a stylish-looking SUV, don’t you think? Anyway, you can check it out at the Malaysia Autoshow 2024, held from May 22 to 26 at MAEPS Serdang.
