Smart #3 makes Malaysian debut at KL-Car Free Morning, launching soon?

The Smart #3 made its Malaysian debut at the KL Car-Free Morning held yesterday (April 21). Wrapped in yellow and black camouflage, the Smart #3 was the lead car at the event’s flag-off ceremony, leading three other Smart #1 EVs.

Having made its global debut last year at the 2023 Auto Shanghai, the Smart #3 is the second model produced by Smart Automobile, a joint venture formed between Mercedes-Benz and Geely. Sized larger than the Smart #1, it measures 4,440 mm long, 1,844 mm wide, and 1,556 mm tall. It is underpinned by a 2,785 mm long wheelbase.

Powering both the Smart #1 Pro and Premium variants is the same single-motor rear-wheel drive setup that makes 272 hp (metric) and 343 Nm. The range-topping Brabus on the other hand sports a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup that pushes out 428 hp (metric) and 543 Nm.

Thanks to a 66 kWh nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NMC) battery pack, the Smart #3 Pro can travel as far as 435 km (WLTP). The Premium variant can go further at 455 km (WLTP), thanks to the use of silicon carbide technology for its inverter. The Brabus variant’s all-electric range is rated at 415 km (WLTP).

Charging-wise, the Smart #3 can handle DC charging at a maximum rate of 150 kW, enabling it to be charged from 10 to 80% in 30 minutes. As for AC charging, the #3 can be charged from 10 to 80% in 3 hours.

This is the first time the Smart #3 has made its appearance in Malaysia, albeit still wrapped in camouflage. Could this mean it will be making its launch here soon? Only time will tell.
