2024 Honda City Hatchback facelift open for booking in Malaysia, launching soon

Order books for the Honda City Hatchback facelift have just been opened in Malaysia. Expected to make its launch here in Q2 2024, the facelifted hatchback is expected to not only bring updated looks but also equipment.

On the outside, the Honda City Hatchback facelift sports new design details such as a new front bumper, a new grille, and a slimmer black bar above it. Honda Malaysia has yet to show us the rear of its upcoming facelifted hatchback, but it should most probably sport a similar design to the Thai-spec model, which made its launch in February this year.

Like the facelifted City sedan, which made its launch in Malaysia in August last year, the facelifted City Hatchback is expected to be offered in five variants. This includes the range-topping e:HEV RS variant shown in the teaser poster.

Powering the e:HEV RS variant is the brand’s Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) hybrid system featuring a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine. Mainly acting as a generator, the mill is paired with an electric motor, resulting in a system output of 109 hp (metric) and 253 Nm. Mated to a single-speed gearbox which Honda calls the e-CVT, power is sent to the front wheels only.

Non-hybrid variants of the CIty hatchback will continue to carry the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder i-VTEC engine, paired to a CVT gearbox. This results in 121 hp (metric) and 145 Nm sent to the front wheels. For context, the Thai-spec model is powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder engine instead.

Inside, the City hatchback facelift in Malaysia is expected to come with an identical interior to its sedan sibling. Also expected is wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto connectivity.

Safety-wise, the Honda City Hatchback facelift in Malaysia should come with the Honda Sensing ADAS suite which includes lead car departure notification (LCDN). The top-spec e:HEV RS variant should also come with the low-speed follow (LSF) function. These two new features join the rest of the existing Honda Sensing features which include front collision warning (FCW), collision mitigation braking system (CMBS), lane detection warning (LDW), adaptive cruise control (ACC) and so on.
