Maserati GranCabrio Folgore debuts as world’s fastest EV convertible – 818hp, 290km/h top speed

Maserati has debuted its very first all-electric convertible – the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore. Essentially the drop-top version of the GranTurismo Folgore coupé, the House of the Trident says the GranCabrio Folgore is the world’s fastest all-electric convertible.

Joining the brand’s all-electric lineup, which consists of the GranTurismo Folgore and Grecale Folgore all-electric SUV, the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore sports the brand’s latest vertical headlight design, pioneered by the MC20 halo car. Round the back, the all-electric convertible is fitted with full LED taillights, which the Italian carmaker says is a mix between the classic boomerang form from many Maserati models in the past and a harpoon.

The Maserati GranCabrio Folgore features a staggered wheel configuration, where its 21-inch rear wheels are larger than the 20-inch units up front. Optionally, customers can also have their all-electric convertible equipped with low rolling resistance tyres to optimize its maximum achievable range.

Being a convertible, we can’t miss out on the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore’s roof, can we? Maserati says the roof can be operated on the move at speeds of up to 50 km/h and opens in just 14 seconds. Closing it only takes 2 seconds longer at 16 seconds.

Powering the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore is a tri-motor setup and 800-volt electrical architecture. This results in a combined output of 751 hp, which can be boosted to 818 hp via the “MaxBoost” mode. Its total torque output is rated at 1,350 Nm.

With power sent to all four wheels together with torque vectoring, the GranCabrio Folgore can accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds. The 0 to 200 km/h sprint can be performed in just 9.1 seconds. The all-electric convertible can also achieve a top speed of 290 km/h, making it the fastest all-electric convertible in the world.

Thanks to a 92.5 kWh T-shaped lithium-ion battery pack, the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore can carry you as far as 447 km (WLTP) on a single charge. Charging the battery can be done via a maximum DC charging rate of 270 kW, which can top up the battery from 20 to 80% in just 18 minutes. AC charging can be done at a maximum rate of 22 kW, which can provide the car with 100 km (WLTP) of range in 1 hour.

Moving inside the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore, you get equipment such as a 12.2” digital instrument display, an 8.8” Comfort display, and a 12.3” central touchscreen that runs on the Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) infotainment system. Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Baidu CarLife are also supported. Optionally, the head-up display (HUD) and the Maserati Digital Clock can be opted as options.
