BYD Seal blows past 1,300 bookings in 4 days – early bird promo extended again

After surpassing the 800-unit mark in just two days, Sime Darby Beyond Auto has now announced that it has now blown past 1,300 bookings received during its four-day launch event at The Exchange TRX last weekend.

As a result of the “overwhelming demand” for the fully electric sedan, the company is now extending its early-bird promotion once again, this time without a hard limit on the number of units, but rather a deadline of March 3 2024.

Customers who place a booking for the BYD Seal through the company’s official website or at showrooms nationwide before the end of the promotional period will receive complimentary home chargers (supplied by Kineta, Sime Darby’s charging solutions subsidiary), as well as charging credits worth RM800 from Gentari or ChargEV.

Commenting on the model’s promising performance, Sime Darby Motors Managing Director, Jeffrey Gan said, “The response from
Malaysians clearly demonstrates their readiness to embrace EVs from BYD, which continues to make waves here and in other parts of the region. This achievement also marks another milestone in the robust evolution of the country’s EV market.”

The BYD Seal is now available in Malaysia in two variants – the Premium RWD priced from RM180,430, and the Performance AWD at RM200,430, both on-the-road and without insurance.

Performance wise, the Premium features a single motor on the rear axle rated for 308 hp and 360 Nm, or a 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.9 seconds. The motor is powered by a 82.5 kWh LFP Blade battery pack, giving it a range of 570 km (WLTP) in a single charge.

The Performance variant meanwhile adds another motor in front, raising its outputs to a combined 523 hp and 670 Nm, which is enough to get the electric sedan from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds – as denoted by the badge on its boot lid. Paired to the same 82.5 kWh battery, the BYD Seal Performance AWD can travel up to 520 km (WLTP) in one full charge.

Both variants come with an on-board 7 kW AC charger, which will take roughly 15.2 hours to go from 0-100%. DC charging meanwhile is supported at up to a rate of 150 kW, translating to a 10-80% quick charge in approximately 37 minutes.

No matter which variant you prefer, the BYD Seal comes as standard with a warranty package that includes a 6-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, 8-year/160,000 km battery warranty, as well as an 8-year/150,000 km drive unit warranty.
