The highly awaited BYD Seal has now been unveiled here in Malaysia, available in two variants starting from RM179,800. Is this the Tesla Model 3 killer that many think it might be – or the “electric sports sedan” that BYD claims? Check out our first look video and decide for yourself!
The variant line-up kicks off with the Premium, which sports a single electric motor on the rear axle that outputs up to 313 hp and 360 Nm, translating to a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 5.9 seconds.
But the more exciting offering is most definitely the Performance variant, which adds another motor on the front axle to bring its outputs up to 530 hp and 670 Nm, which means you’ll be able to complete the century sprint in just under 3.8 seconds – a point BYD thinks is important enough to be displayed on its tailgate as an additional badge.
Both variants are powered by the same 82.5 kWh battery pack, enough to provide up to 570 km of driving range on the Premium, and 520 km on the Performance due to the AWD set-up. To charge, the BYD Seal will accept 7 kW of AC power via its on-board charger (15.2 hours), or 150 kW of DC power (37 minutes from 10-80%).
The BYD Seal is covered by a 6-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, an 8-year/160,000 km battery warranty, and an 8-year/150,000 km drive unit warranty as standard.
