BYD Seal receives 800 bookings in 2 days, early-bird promo extended to 1,100 units

The BYD Seal is off to an electrifying start here in Malaysia. BYD Sime Darby Beyond Auto announced on its Facebook page that it has now already collected over 800 bookings for the Tesla Model 3 rival, in just two days since it made its official debut in the country.

As a response to the positive reception in the country, the company will be extending its early-bird promotion for the BYD Seal to another 300 additional buyers, who will be eligible to a complimentary AC home charger (supplied by its EV charging subsidiary, Kineta), alongside free Gentari or ChargEV charging credits worth RM800.

The BYD Seal was launched here in Malaysia last week, with two variants available on offer, starting from RM180,430 on-the-road, without insurance. Tesla, for comparison, offers the Model 3 in two variants, starting from RM189,000.

Not only does the BYD Seal undercut the Tesla Model 3 in terms of pricing, it also currently offers more raw firepower courtesy of the Performance variant, all while costing RM20k less than the Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD – It’s no wonder the Chinese electric sedan received such fanfare during its launch.

It remains to be seen if the BYD Seal can sustain its early interest throughout its life-cycle in Malaysia, just as the Atto 3 and Dolphin did (anecdotally, mind you, since BYD does not yet publish official sales figures here), but a start like this is certainly promising.

That said, competition is set to heat up once again, with the Tesla Model Y set to begin deliveries here in Malaysia in the coming months, and the Ora 07 (previously known as Lightning Cat) is also set to make its official debut soon. Which will be your pick amongst the many new EV options here?
