Jaecoo J7 previewed in Malaysia – X70 rival launching mid-2024

The Jaecoo J7 AWD SUV has just been previewed here in Malaysia. Once officially launched in Malaysia, the J7 will be the first model from the Chery sub-brand to be brought into the Malaysian market.

Size-wise, the Jaecoo J7 measures 4,500 mm long, 1,865 mm wide, and 1,680 mm tall, and is underpinned by a 2,672 mm long wheelbase. This makes it just about as big as the Honda CR-V, albeit slightly shorter in length. It is also just a hair shorter than the Proton X70 in terms of length and height but is slightly wider.

On the outside, the Jaecoo J7 sports a boxy design, giving it a premium yet tough look. The Malaysian-spec J7 also comes with exterior kits such as LED headlights, LED rearlights which sort of resemble the Ford Everest, welcome lights, and a set of 19-inch wheels. The J7 is also fitted with electric flush door handles, a feature yet to be seen in its segment peers like the Honda CR-V, Proton X70, and the Mazda CX-5.

Powering the Jaecoo J7 AWD in Malaysia is a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). This results in a total of 197 hp (metric) and 290 Nm being sent to all four wheels via the brand’s all-wheel drive (AWD) system.

Based on the numbers stated on Jaecoo’s website, the J7 AWD can do the century sprint in 8.0 seconds, and achieve a WLTP-rated fuel consumption of 7.48 L/100km.

Other interior kits such as a heated steering wheel, a centre armrest box with a chiller, an 8-speaker sound system, and a large panoramic sunroof that measures 1.1 m2 are also included with the J7 AWD.

On the safety front, the Jaecoo J7 AWD in Malaysia is equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Intelligent Active Speed Limiting, Integrated Cruise Assistance, Speed Assistance, and rear collision warning.
