Chery Malaysia will hold the Chery Eco Run 24’ on January 7, 2024, at Dataran Wawasan Putrajaya in Malaysia. Themed “A New Journey To A New Green Life”, the event will feature the Chery Omoda E5 all-electric SUV as the lead car, and has garnered support from MITI and Kelab MITI. Planned for launch in March 2024 in Malaysia, registration of interest (ROI) for the Chery Omoda E5 has been open since late December 2023. Interested customers may head to Chery Malaysia’s official website to register their interest in the upcoming electric vehicle (EV) SUV.
The Chery Omoda E5 will look familiar to those who have seen the regular petrol engine-powered Omoda 5, which is currently sold in Malaysia. At the front, the Omoda E5 sports a new front fascia without a central intake grille, a front-mounted charging port, automatic cooling shutters, as well as a new set of 18-inch wheels, among other things.
Powering the Chery Omoda E5 is a single-motor setup that feeds 150 kW (204 hp) to the front wheels. Thanks to a 61 kWh blade lithium-ion phosphate (LFP) battery pack, the Omoda E5 can carry you as far as 430 km (WLTP) on a single charge.
Charging the Chery Omoda E5 can be done with AC charging at a maximum rate of 9.9 kW. The EV SUV can also handle fast charging at a maximum rate of 80 kW using DC fast charging, which can juice up the car from 30 to 80% in under 30 minutes.

Moving inside, the Chery Omoda E5 features two floating 10.25-inch screens acting as the instrument display and the infotainment head unit. Its dashboard has received a redesign, with a touch-screen console replacing the touch-panel climate control panel.
On the safety front, the Chery Omoda E5 is equipped with the “ADAS 2.5” advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The system is slightly more advanced than the one seen in the regular Omoda 5, with the addition of a driver monitoring system.
No pricing information for the Chery Omoda E5 has been announced for Malaysia just yet. However, we have been told that the EV SUV will be offered in a sole variant for now, with its official launch scheduled for March 2024.
