Proton X50 & X90 receive new OTA update for infotainment head unit, X50 gets new Syok app

Proton has just released over-the-air (OTA) updates for the Proton X50 and X90’s infotainment systems. As the update is done over the air, users can simply install the update in the comfort of their cars, as long as the infotainment system is connected to the internet.

With the new update, the Proton X50’s head unit that runs on Atlas OS now gets a new Syok radio station app. The update is issued to all four variants of the X50, including the Standard and Executive variants’ 8-inch touchscreen head unit, as well as the Premium and Flagship variants’ larger and wider 10.25-inch touchscreen head unit which also support the brand’s ‘Hi Proton’ voice command function.

No new features have been specified for the new software update released for the Proton X90’s infotainment system. However, like the X50, the OTA update is available for all variants of the X90. This consists of the Standard, Executive, Premium, and Flagship variants, which all sport the large 12.3-inch touchscreen head unit that also runs on Atlas OS.

Proton has shared some tips to follow when updating your X50 and X90’s infotainment system. The tips are as follows:

  • When the vehicle is running and connected to the internet, the OTA update package is downloaded automatically in the background.
  • After the OTA update package download is complete, the installation update can be initiated at any time. The entire procedure should take approximately 20 minutes.
  • Do not switch off the infotainment head unit or engine until the installation update is complete.

For all who are not familiar with Proton’s Atlas OS, it is an in-car infotainment operating system developed by homegrown software company Aco Tech, which itself is a joint venture company owned by Proton, Altel, and ECarX.

Atlas OS not only features the famous ‘Hi Proton’ voice command feature but also its own developed Atlas Maps app. Since 2022, the Spotify app has also been made available to the OS, thanks to Aco Tech’s partnership with Spotify. The world’s most popular audio streaming subscription service is available with new Proton cars running Atlas OS, and can also be installed from the OS’ A Store.
