In conjunction with the highly-awaited model launch today, ASEAN NCAP has also released the test results of the Proton S70 sedan through its safety assessment programme – a full five-star rating, with a weighted overall score of 82.95 points.
The tests were conducted according to the programme’s latest and more demanding ASEAN NCAP 2021-2025 protocol, in which it scored 36.46/40.00 in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) category, 17.02/20.00 for Child Occupant Protection (COP), 15.71/20.00 for safety Assist (SA), and 13.75/20.00 for Motorcyclist Safety (MS).
The Proton X50, also built on the same BMA platform, has also received a five-star rating through the older 2017-2020 test protocol. While their scores aren’t directly comparable, the detailed reports for both cars do seem to suggest a slightly improved frontal impact protection for adults on the all-new S70 sedan.
On Child Occupant Protection, the Proton S70 scored perfect marks for the dynamic impact tests. However, it did drop a few points in the “installation” segment of the tests, as several oversized child restraint systems (CRS, or child car seats) failed to install properly despite the isofix mounts on the two outboard rear seats.

The Proton S70 is equipped with several safety features as standard, including six airbags, blind spot detection, rear collision warning, child presence detection, as well as a seatbelt reminder system for both front and rear seat occupants.
Advanced driver assistance features are available on the Premium and Premium X variants, and includes autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality, lane centering assist, lane departure prevention, traffic sign information, fatigue driving reminder, as well as an auto high-beam function.
According to the ASEAN NCAP tests, the autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitor, and automatic high beam systems have all “functioned according to the ASEAN NCAP requirements”.
The ASEAN NCAP report notes that the all-new Proton S70 “made an exceptional performance” in its assessment programme, and commends the national carmaker’s effort in making safety accessible to all road users.
The Proton S70 is now officially launched in Malaysia in four variants, with prices ranging from RM73,800 to RM94,800. For the full breakdown of the highly-awaited sedan’s specifications and features, check out our live coverage here.
