Proton S70: 3,000-unit monthly sales target, 1,200 bookings received so far, spare parts supply sufficient

Proton is expecting to sell up to 3,000 units of the Proton S70 for the first year after its launch. Thus far, Proton has received a total of 1,200 bookings for its new S70 sedan. The company expects the figure to go up as prices for the sedan have been revealed upon its official launch.

Of the 1,200 bookings received for the new Proton sedan, the national carmaker has revealed that 80% of its customers have picked the Premium and Flagship variants, while the remaining 20% of its customers have chosen the range-topping Flagship X variant.

With this, you must be wondering what happened to the entry-level Executive variant right? Proton says that customer demand for the Proton S70 Executive is for the moment comparatively lower than its higher-spec siblings.

It is also noteworthy that the S70’s price was not publicly known just yet when customers dropped their booking prior to the car’s official launch. Now that its prices are live, Proton hopes that customers will consider its new sedan over its Japanese B- and C-segment rivals. In fact, Proton is also expecting its S70 sedan’s sales to exceed the X50, mostly thanks to its more affordable price point.

If you are among the customers who have dropped a booking for the Proton S70, Proton says that its new sedan is currently ready to be delivered.

However, looking at the Malaysian market behaviour, and considering that we have already approached the end of the year, most customers in the country would prefer to purchase their cars starting next year for better resale value in the future.

Spare parts availability has also been a big topic for Proton’s X-series models. Naturally, the same concerns will also be applied to the newly launched S70. In response to the concerns, Proton has assured that the parts supply for the S70 is sufficient.

The majority of the S70’s spare parts are ready, and deliveries of the sedan’s parts to all Proton outlets will be completed by the end of this month. Proton also opened its new regional parts centre in Kuching earlier this year and has expanded its centre region warehouse to ensure sufficient supply for its cars. The fact that the 1.5-litre turbocharged MPI engine that powers the S70 isn’t foreign to Proton also helps, as the same engine is shared with the lower variants of the X50 SUV.
