2023 Toyota Vios scores 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating – Full points for child front & side impact test



The ASEAN NCAP crash test result for the 2023 Toyota Vios has just been released. Tested at the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) PC3 test lab located in the state of Melaka, the B-segment sedan managed to score a full 5-star rating with a 78.7% overall weighted score.

The 2023 Toyota Vios’ crash test report shows the car scoring 28.2/32 in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP). In this pillar, the B-segmenter scored 14.56/16 for the front impact test, 6.64/8 for the side impact test, and 7/8 for the head protection technology (HPT) test.

In the Child Occupant Protection (COP) pillar, the 2023 Toyota Vios scored a total of The 2023 Toyota Vios 42.43/51 points. This is contributed by its perfect score of 16/16 and 8/8 in both the frontal and side-impact tests respectively. During the crash test, both occupant dummies were seated in Joyson Safety i-Size MIDI child safety seats, facing rearwards.

As for the Safety Assist (SA) and Motorcycle Safety (MS) pillars, the 2023 Toyota Vios scored 16.88/21 and 8.58/16 respectively. Combined, this results in a total weighted score of 78.70% and a 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating.

Safety-wise, Toyota has equipped its DNGA-based B-segment fighter with six airbags as standard, along with the brand’s Toyota Safety Sense advanced safety suite. This includes standard features such as pre-collision system (PCS), lane departure warning (LDW), lane departure prevention (LDP), front departure alert (FDA), and pedal misoperation control (PMC).

The 3D panoramic view monitor, blind spot monitor (BSM), rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA), and front digital video recorder with smartphone connectivity, brake assist (BA), hill start assist (HSA), along with 2 front and 4 rear parking sensors are also fitted onto the 2023 Toyota Vios. Opting for the top-spec G variant, you will get additional safety features such as lane-keeping control (LKC), auto high beam (AHB), and adaptive cruise control (ACC).

Additionally, customers may also opt for the optional rear digital video recorder for extra piece of mind. In Malaysia, the 2023 Toyota Vios E costs RM89,600 while the top-of-the-line costs RM95,500. Both prices are on the road, without insurance.
