With just two full months to go before wrapping up 2023, Perodua has announced a revision to its sales target for the year, up from 314,000 that the company first estimated back in January, to now 325,000 units.
Alongside the new higher sales target, the national carmaker’s production target for 2023 has also risen in tandem, up to now 338,000 units in 2023.
Perodua says in a press release that the new higher targets are underpinned by improved parts supply by its vendors, as well as healthy demand for its vehicles – specifically its latest model, the Perodua Axia, that was launched in Malaysia earlier this year.
The new targets also ride on the back of Perodua’s “highest ever production and sales performance” in October, in which it delivered a total of 33,836 units to new customers, alongside 35,111 new vehicles rolling off its production floor. The figures represent a 36% jump in sales, and a meteoric 53% increase in production capacity compared to the same period last year.
Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad said that the increase in production was achieved with available resources within the current automotive ecosystem, signalling at the growth potential for both demand and supply in the industry.
“While some issues such as the long-term availability of semiconductor chips still persist, we are able to secure enough so that our fourth quarter performance would be the best in our history,” he added.

As of the end of October 2023, Perodua has now registered a total of 267,063 vehicles, representing a 20.2% increase over the same period last year. Production figures have also increased by 22%, now standing at 280,452 vehicles made year-to-date at its Sungai Choh production facility.
“If this momentum continues, then the automotive industry might be able to sustain uch growth in 2024, which would further help boost the consumer sentiment despite the economic uncertainties next year. For now, we are focusing on maximising our potential in both production and sales so that our customers will receive their Perodua vehicles faster,” Dato’ Sri Zainal added.
